I crossed about 7300km yesterday. Also managing to average 6.8-6.9l/100km (mixed conditions and according to the onboard econometer) with some incredibly careful driving. Trying to set a good benchmark.

I'm trying to maintain it till half tank, then fill up, take note of the amount of fuel and calculate the actual based on km. I reckon the best you will see on a combined cycle is about 7.2l/100km. The trick is to shift when the car tells you to and be as gentle on the throttle as possible. Rather burst it in the first few gears quickly and get up to speed then let it gradually build in 6th on the highway. Also if you get a downhill hook 6th gear if above 60km/h. Also try and avoid (stop laughing) bumper to bumper traffic.

The actual result will prove if I'm driving economically or just confusing the computer...

Wonder if the ever so slightly skinnier tyres have any influence considering they're all "energy saving" tyres. @sav

My car tells me to shift at around 7200rpm with a flashing light and a BEEPING sound. If I wanted to do an economy run every day I would have bought a Prius.

Prior to my current economy run mine was sitting around 8.3 -8.4l/100km. Keep in mind you do have Prius tyres... I just want to see if I can match the economy sticker... Albeit for 2 weeks - I'm only human, this kind of restraint is like cold turkey!

As my odometer no longer works in my Mini there is a solid chance it may be even worse!

I'm still yet to hit 1000 Km's and I've had the car for 2 weeks now.

I use it every day though so expecting the Km's to increase fairly quickly.

Final figures are in based on half a tank (indicated) and a fill up of 23l. Trip meter read 304km. Works out to 7.57l/100km!
