Please Help! Front pipe advice on a stock exhaust...

Hello, I can use some help.

I'm curious on what an aftermarket front pipe would be like, with the rest of the exhaust parts being stock. I have looked at some of the post and it doesn't seem that a lot of people have tried that.

I would Like a little more boxer roar something nice a deep. Nothing too much; I like the fact that I can take it to redline without causing attention. It would just be nice tho, if the car sounded a little more like a real sports car lol.

Questions...What gains should one expect (I have the unichip not sure if there be a tune for that) What one sounds the best in your opinion. Any videos of those with it would be great

Thank you for your help guys

Biggest change in sound will come from the axleback portion, hence "stealth" exhaust setups that keep the stock axleback portion but change everything else. Your best bet is to just pickup a quiet exhaust; again nothing will change tone and sound to the degree that an axleback can.

If you're looking for the typical WRX/STI boxer sound, that requires changing exhaust manifolds...which there aren't even that many of if you want that sound (Borla comes to mind).

I ran with the Nameless overpipe for about 1000 miles with the stock axle back. Performance improved some, and it was a little louder, but some would find the stock muffler raspy in this configuration. I didn't think it was terrible, but now that I have added the Nameless axle back, the sound is much improved.

As I can only speak to my experience with the Nameless, I can't say the same results would occur across the board. But, I experienced some increase in power, and the exhaust was louder. However, as compared to an after-market axle back, I can't say it was "deeper".

Sorry, I don't really have any video/audio to demonstrate the differences.

I'm running a stock midpipe, catless invidia front pipe and nameless axleback.

No need for a mid pipe as tests have shown that there is no real performance increase when swapping them out.

Your bigest bolt-on gain for the car is going to be the front pipe - if you get catless then I'm sure it will sould pretty good even with a stock axleback as it removes the cat and a resonator - which muffle things quite a bit.

It is possible that someone out there has done this, but it is highly unlikely.

Most tuners will traditionally go for a cat-back exhaust first. This changes tone and increases power. It is not a best practice to open up exhaust piping up stream and then bottle neck it back to smaller diameter down stream. The most logical is to change the farthest pieces downstream of the header and work your way back. The best is to replace all the pieces at once, of course.

Cat-back makes the most sense to me.

Cheers!

You bet and for the OP the resonator is in the mid-pipe, which is changed out when installing a cat-back system.

Cheers!

I changed the front pipe to a catless front pipe. It does make a difference in sound and performance, however it is not as much as you would think. At startup you here the difference, then the sound goes back to almost stock sound. When cruising you can barely hear the difference inside the car, however when you step on it towards 4500 + rpm's then you notice the change in sound. I would recommend a catless front pipe first, then a cat-back or axle-back as most your gains will come from the front pipe. the small change in sound will be enough to satisfy your needs, then you could save your money to get an axle-back or full cat-back. I got my front pipe from P&L motorsports for $200ish.. i have a video review/installation/sounds of it, I just been super lazy in uploading to youtube.

I currently run two setups; a) catless front pipe and stock exhaust, and b) catless front pipe + custom dual muffler delete (which is balls to wall loud, yet badass at the same time)

to the OP. You have to remember that the stock downpipe has a resonator and a cat in it that acts as a resonator itself.

Doing a catback is almost poitnless IMO just because the stock midpipe is perfectly fine - it's just a straight tube with a low-resistance-resonator in it.

A downpipe-axleback combo is your best bet. It sounds great also.
