Rubberize/Coat trunk area

Guys.. I removed my spare and all the tools from the back of my fr-s. I have no need for them. I would like to coat the rear sheet metal with material akin to that you would use with spray-on bedliners for a truck. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? My goal is to protect the sheet metal and not add much weight.

Don't laugh, that stuff as seen on TV looks good. Normally I'm skeptical but I see it for $15 per can in the mall right next to the NO! NO! and Stompeez.

Just normal wear and tear from transporting things. Also, I think it would look cleaner if it was all blacked out in there. The point was to remove the weight of the spare, tools, carpet mat, etc and still leave something behind that was somewhat protective, hence the spray-on rubberized coating idea.

Any thoughts on that?

That's what initially came to mind. Hoping others had good ideas. I want the job to be clean and look OEM, so I will probably be masking off quite a bit to protect from overspray.

You want a Rhino liner type coating. Maybe fit 3 wheels/tires in the trunk afterward.

It would look a lot more OEM if you took out the trunk floor, removed the spare and all the tools, etc. and put the factory trunk floor back in. I'm sure by itself it weighs very little and it really would look factory finished instead of a plasti-dip or painted hole.

The only problem is that the trunk carpeted mat will collapse under any kind of weight (like wheels/tires). It's not very rigid.

My friend Raptor Lined his Jeep and it seems to be a very good product. It's probably too rugged for this application though.
