That's just the shading in the photo. This photo shows a 7400 RPM redline.

Zoomed in here on this picture, I realized that
1) Where someone mentioned it looked like a USB port, it now looks more like a place to clip the bottom cover of the dash.
2) The button above the ODO/Trip button, is covered up... hmmm
and 3) Why does that ignition key have some weird yellow/tape thing around the key hole?

1. I already pointed that out
2. That or a crappy blank. Hard to say but I doubt it's anything really secret. It may just be a button that was moved, but the VSC off button or something that was moved to the console.
3. No idea.

Take it for what it's worth. I rememer seeing this on a Miata forum a while back since you mentioned Miatas Dave. I'm sure they have gotten lighter now but the difference is minimal.

I used to work at D.O.W (in competition with Good Guys, Circuit City) back in the days doing car stereo installs. When customers wanted to add pw dl and windows, I remember those aftermarket parts had some weight.

Hey guys, i just swapped out my window units and decided to weigh all the parts on my digital postal scale for those interested.

POWER WINDOWS & Regulators & Accessories
8-lbs & 02 oz.

MANUAL WINDOWS & Regulators & Accessories
4-lbs & 08 oz.

This includes the Electric Window Switchs for the Power Windows, & the Door Cranks for the Manual Windows, and any misc. nuts & bolts.

I won't argue with those numbers, but I believe the more recent versions have decreased in weight. All other electronic systems have.

My source is the Elise head engineer who said the power windows weigh 6 ounces less. Is the weight of a cheeseburger a significant difference? Absolutely not. It's probably not worth worrying about, but we all love counting our ounces.

I'd take those as correct then. I got those numbers from Miata friends that built numerous miata race cars so I took it at their word.

BTW, those aftermarket parts are huge compared to most OEM, especially the power door lock parts!

Yeah I believe that. I'm sure the power door locks are getting lighter too b/c those were the heavier one.

I honestly think it's a very unfair comparison nowadays since majority of the cars have power locks and windows as a standard feature.

With the NHTSA now requiring side airbags by 2013, that'll add more weight to the door panels.

Yeah they were and they weren't that durable. That was a long time ago for me so I'm assuming they are probably out of business now since power windows and door locks are common now.

The suspension/tires/brakes (pads) on this FT86 race car will not be the same as on the production version of the FR-S.
These are preproduction parts at the very least, meaning you won't likely see big changes from what's seen here and production. Typically the design gets locked down way in advance, in order to give lead time for suppliers to ready the parts for mass production.
