We have been charting our FR-S as we put miles on it. We have several dyno's at 250 miles (165 hp) , 2500 miles (170 hp) , 8500 miles (176-177 hp), and 10,000 miles (177-tuned 190). What we found is that the car has picked up about 12 horsepower from break-in. Our dyno sheet's are posted in our dyno thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7319 |

Of course a higher redline would be useful in order to be able to shave time on certain AutoX or road courses, especially (primarily?) if you're competing for trophies (real or imaginary). The point I intended to make was that in this context of this thread (seeking power) there doesn't seem to be any benefit in raising the rev limit beyond stock from a pure power perspective. Perhaps I should have been more concise. In our case upping it to 8500 seems safe (Accelerated Performance are running 8.5k on their turbo motor AFAIK) which gives you an extra 1000 rpms to play with. Hugely beneficial on some AutoX courses (particularly the 1st-2nd gear 'specials' I'm used to) and possibly on some road courses. Don't think I'd want to spin it up to 8k+ rpms on a road course for a prolonged period though.

I suspect that most of them do. As the engine and drivetrain break in and loosen up that is probably a fairly standard scenario. Most people don't dyno stock cars repeatedly like that, but you can see the trend if you watch fuel economy over time. Fuel economy generally improves quite noticeably on any new car from the first couple tanks till about 10K-15K

LOL! We are very thorough in our tuning process and the car saw over 100 passes on the dyno - it is adviseable to ensure the integrity of the lubricant prior to that kind of a beating. We try to make sure we are always on fresh oil when we tune a car.

I'm wondering if I can hit 200whp on I/H/E/Tune on 93. I'm already at 189-190 with I/E....

That said, I do have a brand new FA20 head at the shop so I can do the flow workups, I just need to make time for it. We have a couple big projects and engine builds going right now so we have to get that knocked out first. |

How important is an aftermarket pulley like Perrin's? Are the gains tangible?
Also maybe a silly question but how do you reset your ECU? Do you need to have the tuning kit to do this? I just got an Injen initake and am wondering if reseting the ECU help the car adapt to the increased air flow. |

I never dynoed completely stock. The closest I had was with an SRT headerback exhaust. That was 177.

Which headers are you thinking?I hope to get close in the spring when I install everything and get tuned. I'm going with a works air filter, avo inlet, borla uel headers and nameless exhaust. Oh and that super oil haha. |
