Well this is curious; 76% of the poll results say we want a hatchback or fastback or some sort of rear opening that's useful. Little trunk openings are impractical and are counter to Mr. Scion VP's speech of being able to put a set of track tires in the back.

I for one hope the FT-86 concept with its prototype trunk lid is just a quick-n-dirty solution prior to Toyota/Subaru engineering a proper fastback liftgate.

If the rear seats don't fold down I can't buy one. Need to put skis in this bad boy. Based on the mannequin drawings in another thread we figure the distance from the back of the drivers seat (with a 6' driver) to the back of the trunk is 70 inches. If I put my skis on a diagonal I could even fit my 180 Touring skis!

This thing really needs to be a hatchback, or a fastback, whatever you want to call it. The whole thing should lift up, back glass and all, in order to make this as useful a car as possible. As it has been mentioned before, the Scion TC has a hatch, so I don't know why this wouldn't. Hatches make life so much easier for a 2 door car owner...

Why not get a ski rack? I had a Thule snowboard rack on my GSR and that could hold 4 boards as well as still seat 4.

I agree RRnold. But I am being realistic based on what I have seen.

We have 91 votes for Hatchback, and 29 votes that want a trunk. Ignoring the brands. That said I can't imagine why it would actually end up with a trunk.

I would be happier if this was a hatchback. This car needs every advantage it can get. So long as it looks like a coupe and performs like a coupe, who's going to hate on it if it's actually a hatchback .

Yeah, that is true in every aspect. The MKI was a trunk and the test car at the Ring looked like a high possiblity that it could be a trunk. However, this car already seems to have the advantage and already a low target weight. Even if it was a hatch, with the additional weight, it's going to be a great car.

I mentioned it before and aside from the drive, I often compare this car to the DC2 Integra which was a sub 2700 lbs, a fastback and is currently the best handling FF car.

By the way they haven't really had any information and keep cycling through old specutions, I have a feeling we'll be "whoa... no way!" come the release day.

Boo Hiss!

I understand what the practicality-be-damned people are saying. Having a little tiny trunk opening is good for rigidity and lower weight, but now that Toyota/Subaru have chosen to throw practicality out the window, they're going to pull a miracle out the hat in terms of rear-seat ingress to fit a set of tires in there.

If the car doesn't have a huge aperture when the rear seats are folded down, I'm afraid the car might be too impractical.

Practical = 4 tires in the rear seat/trunk area.
