I figured as much, but how in the world is this supposed to work? Sending me multiple checks? Huh? Gonna report to the police, and report to the police in the town that the check came from.

Instinct says that however it works the scam needs you to try to cash them. Strong appeal to greed.

Maybe a cash-back thing? Wants X plus the difference of the cheque in cash?

I'm curious what the scam is. Cops will probably explain when you report it.

Well, today I check the mailbox, a mysterious envelope from Oregon State University apparently showed up last week with a check made out for 2700 dollars from some guy in Wisconsin in it. Scammer promises that another check is coming via FedEx and even gave me a tracking number????? I only asked for 700 by the way!

What the hell is going on? I'm almost tempted to just cash these and get the 200 dollars guaranteed by the bank per check, except I would feel really bad if I were taking money from some victim of identity theft. Why is this scammer trying to give me free money?
Don't do it bro. Smells like a scam. The only way it'd be worth the risk to them is if they're coming out further ahead than you are.

What do you know, check is Western Union LOL. No way in hell I would ever give them 2000 dollars back, it's their fault for writing the wrong amount, "I just didn't notice"
Still, too sketchy to feel comfortable just cashing it, even if the bank gives me 200 bucks.

Go through all of that link. Cheque is probably fraudulent, too. Or if it isn't it's from victim #2, which would set up a paper trail to you as the 'scammer'.

Police time.

The troll in me wants to play along and have more and more checks sent my way, and then each one gets reported and then hopefully a large enough horde of angry scammed people will get the scammer into deep shit. But the lazy person in me (or the lazy person that is me) is more dominant.

Police can be fantastic real world trolls. Spent the time to pass it off to them. Then forget about it.

Dog on it is a detective story told from the dog point of view! (really makes me laugh)
Also Rise of the governor - is a great book if you are into zombies. No walking dead knowledge is necessary for the read
The series is the 'memories' of the main character. He's the typical unlikely hero, with the twist that he can see the dead and many other forms of supernatural beings. The books are a chronicle of his adventures and how he saves the day while narrowly escaping death. The character doesn't take himself too seriously though and the self deprecating humor gets pretty funny.

I've never heard of Dog On It, I'll look into it. I've got five other books waiting for my attention though so it'll be a while.
