I'm curious if you understand how the whole EcuTek thing works in our favor. First a tuner like Visconti or FT86Speedfactory generates a base map for the car that is a decent map to get some added performance, better fueling, etc. Then theres all the added feature sets that the EcuTek software gurus work with to unlock or in some cases even add to the ECU functionality. Once you buy a tune and license any subsequent tweaks or alterations to the featureset is rolled out by your preferred tuner at no cost to you. Also as I have seen and heard from numerous people, with the data logging your tuner can further tweak your individual tune for your specific setup.

As I see it with EcuTek and the tuners, you aren't really buying a static tune. I may be wrong but I think as long as you stick with NA (Gas/e85/Flex) or FI (Gas/e85/Flex) these tuners will support you. You also pay for the added comfort of knowing that these tuners know this car better than we do from the tuning side of things.

I guess if you fancy yourself as an experienced tuner you might be a little miffed about the prospect of being doomed to not decide how to tune your car, but I am sure that these tuners will cater to your wants within reason...and I'm sure they will help push your car to the point where it pops as long as there is a contract of sorts stating you accept the consequences of pushing beyond "safe" limits to cover their asses.

Ultimately the software to be an EcuTek tuner is available...here's their site:
http://www.ecutek.com/Products/ProEC...cion_FR-S.aspx

But if $1000 seems steep to have a good tune, then I'm just gonna go out on a limb and guess this is far more than that...

I for one would be glad to pay a premium for a solution that allows me to modify my maps and parameters at will. As long as it has a full feature set to allow for future modifications, boost by gear, electronic boost control, etc.

Open source is always going to lag behind with the features. Im not holding my breath but it would be great if a viable open source solution existed.
ECUtek doesnt allow me to change my own parameters at will. Not paying that much for essentially a flash that i have no control over.

I know im not the only one holding out for a real viable tuning solution that i can pay for, then have a reputable tuner tune, then freely modify as i see fit at home with my laptop. If it has the features i want, i will pay for it. And i'm sure i'm not the only one.

So who's going to be the first person to set up a company, buy the ecutek suite, setup a citrix/terminal server and start renting out ECUTek map tuning access time?

Probably the person who wants to quickly lose EcuTek as a supplier.

Software has now been released, $1500 for the pro version looks like decent value to me

i always trust companies with my money when they have email addresses such as brzedit@gmail.com and have yet to produce a video or any other evidence of this working on a BRZ.

Especially when they already own a domain. It would take all of 5 minutes to set up a google apps account. Aren't these guys supposed to be developers?

I guess with no open source counterpart the pricing is higher... The pro WRX software is $150. If it is not clear the personal version lets you edit your own maps.

Who wants to be a guinea pig?

should have my copy of personal today ($499)..

For all the EcuTek guys that are worried about people getting hold of their roms..l don't be. BRZEdit does NOT include a read feature even on the pro version for this reason... Now when ECUFLash comes out with support for the toyobaru... all bets are off.

Pro (1500) lets you tune an unlimited number of cars and includes 1 year support
Personal (499) lets you tune 1 car
lite (199) only lets you install maps and log, this is so tuners with pro can send out maps.

Here is a list of accessible maps i got from epifan.
Interestingly enough, there is no MAP Sensor scaling. Not good news for the boosted crowd.

I'd still run MAF with my tune, but i'd like to be able to put a decent MAP sensor on the car to see boost.
