Any news on end user software or do you still have to go through a 'tuner'?

Ecutek's stance has always been and probably always will be you need to go through a tuner. If you read the FAQ on their website, they don't really trust end users to tune their own cars.

Great to see all the advancements being made, custom maps and triggers really gets into standalone type territory for flexibility.

Understandable. What if one is already a proficient tuner with no 'shop' though?

As long as they've got a business license and established representation/experience tuning, I'm sure ECUTek would be willing to sell your tuner the tuning suite. However it likely will not make much financial sense for your tuner to buy the suite if your car is the only FR-S/BRZ he plans on tuning. He can contact them at ecutek.com.

I was actually referring to myself. I started tuning AEM EMS's pretty much right after they came out. I have no shop, business license or tune other peoples cars (anymore) and do not plan on doing either anytime soon. The 'Tuning Suite' sounds expensive, any idea on price?

I just want to play around with my own car and see what I can get out of it. But I cannot justify paying for a 'cable and a tune' for almost the price of what a complete AEM EMS w/software goes for and not be able to change things myself.

This is just me though, not knocking the 'mail order' tunes, just not a fan personally.

Too bad we need to go through a tuner. I had great sucesss with mail order tunes. I don't see why each car has to be custom tuned for a NA engine.

For those of you looking to create your own tunes, you may want to check out BRZedit. there was a thread about it the other day, from a birds eye view it seems to be similar to ECUtek (but not as advanced).

It's also not released yet.

This Guy is trying to reverse engineer the ecutek.. He was given enough screen shots to produce something that looks like ecutek but doesn't have anything that works yet.

Hi John,

Thank you for all your hard work for the community. Your knowledge is amazing. I did have three random questions though...

1) Ecutek mentions in their newsletter that they now have some level of control or interaction with the power steering controller. Has this been played with at all yet? Any idea if map selectable power steering adjustments (eg: launch control adjustments) would be possible?

2)Has anyone looked at implementing antilag using AVCS and ignition?

3)You mentioned repurposing the carbon solenoid in an earlier post. Are there any options for expansability in the stock ECU for inputs or outputs? or the potential for some other piggyback unit?

Everything your asking as already been covered in other threads.

Launch control and map switching is adjustable via cruise control

No comment on the anti lag

Yea there's input and output we can play with.

I know what you mean (its up to pg217 now), but it would be a lot shorter if people would stop giving Visconti a hard time about a product that he doesn't make he just sells (Cable and License). If they wanna bitch about it go talk to ECUtek...especially when Visconti has clearly stated that he is not a fan of the way it works but is just the messenger willing to hang around and be the source of knowledge to help the community. is important for people offering you their time and knowledge for free.
