I KNOW RIGHT!!

Tokyo extreme racer series was AMAZING. It wasn't the graphics nore the physics that made it great, it was how racing was introduced to the player.

Long stretches of highway with no missions or events, where you can find
racers wandering aimlessly looking for a challenge with the flip of your highbeems, teams from the shittiest of ae86s to a band of Dodge Vipers. Racers parked at car lots for meets you can challenge. A while being shadowed by a underline story of the missing speedking, and the throne up for grabs by the fastest racers on that stretch of highway.

That in itself is GOLD, it was beautiful, and artistic, can you picture that element with, better graphics, better physics, Personal missions/events/achievements/trophy. While the highways stretched even longer, not just in Japan, but to the long stretch of European highways, or the north american plains. Each filled with actual players and teams, not just NPC for a big MMO open world racing.

Id love to head or work on a project like this.

Glad to see I'm not the only person who got Forza Horizon just because it was $15. Been debating as well about the Rally expansion...

And I have one of the Tokyo Extreme Racer games on PS2, but couldn't get into it at the time. Perhaps I'll fire it up tonight.

Got it since it was $15. Love past Forzas and I dont think this game compares at all. Way too NFS, especially online mode against other people.

That being said, it is a fun game and worth $15

Wish I had known it was $15. Back up to $60 in the Birmingham area. Not sure I'm willing to throw that at it when i have a ton of other things to drive. If it was still $15 it would have been a no brainer.

Another tokyo extreme racer here. It's been years since i've played it, still an awesome game tho.

My brother bought horizon when it was released. It looks like a fun game but the commentator voiceover is extremely annoying. Can't listen to that sh#t for more then 3mins. It's in dutch with an irritating accent, can't seem to put the game in english.

I have a nostalgic love for Tokyo Extreme Racer. Wonderful game - back in the day, that is. I played the newest 360 version and the atrocious handling ruined it for me. But oh boy, I used to sit in front of the rear projection TV and play the old ones for hours. Now it's like, oh, so I just drifted 9 miles going straight on a highway... suuuuuure..

I'm running the Playseat WRC with a Fanatec CSR and CSR Elite pedals. I been using it for Forza 4, GT5 and Horizon, but since I've finished Horizon I went back to Forza 4.

I don't think it would survive. Motor City Online was fun but didn't last. Test Drive Unlimited didn't seem to have a lot of people whenever I played it either. I honestly think that a more sim-ish game has a better chance of making it. Not saying pure sim like iRacing, because they're the big dog to compete with in their series, but maybe a Gran Turismo or Forza type.

your absolutely right, a game like this risks overlapping many other games on the market, it cant be an arcade racer like Motor City or Test Drive, Need for speed online, or even semi-sim Forza Horizon.

Taking a look at these two intros and 1 ending, what can you gather?

it looks a lot like this.. but without the artistic twists and emotional backdrops found in the game.

Adding a massive multiplayer element would catapult the game to a new level, and still be able to stand alone against its competitors. I think it be sucessful if it was kept simple, true to its formula, and less gimmicy than the rest of the industry that makes "racing" games.

IMO, the best formula would be Need for Speed Most Wanted Online. The original 2005 Most Wanted, that is. That's just my opinion, and what I think was the pinnacle of the street racing games. Somehow they just haven't been as good since then.
