1000bhp MINIMUM!?

Who's driving this one? Daigo Saito again with the 1000hp japanese monster?

I'm obviously not a Formula Drift top competitor but I would be more interested in torque than aiming for certain HP levels. It's the torque and brakes that allow you to keep a perfect tandem in drifting. Which is what FD does.

One thing about the 3UR-FE is that it has a nasty torque dip from 0 RPM to ummm... about 400 RPM.
Stay out of that range and you should be fine.

I'm obviously not a Formula Drift top competitor but I would be more interested in torque than aiming for certain HP levels. It's the torque and brakes that allow you to keep a perfect tandem in drifting. Which is what FD does.
The last couple of years have seen V8 powered cars starting to dominate in FD and in my opinion its because of the high-torque characteristics of the V8's. It allows for easy recovery when you make a mistake and a broad power-band is the key to maintaining proximity in a tandem run.
Daigo's 2JZ powered Lexus is a beast (Rumors had the bored and stroked 3.4 liter motor putting out 1200 hp on the laughing gas) but I'm sure that the nitrous is used to add a big old dose of "grunt" when it's needed. Making lots of smoke is a big part of the FD show and the cars with the big torque can generate instant wheel speed.
Our build is designed to generate lots of torque everywhere in the rev range. The static compression ratio is over 10:1 (Thats one of the reasons we are running methanol) and we opted for a supercharger setup over turbo's...It's all about instant throttle response at any RPM.
Having said that, not every track needs massive power, Ken Gushi in the Greddy FR-S has proved this year that a well balanced car in the right hands can be a match for the V8 cars at certain venues, I doubt that Kens FR-S is making much more than 600hp but he is a gifted driver in a well-sorted car and has had a great year in what some people would say is an under-powered car compared to the 2jz and V8 powered competition.

Expensive project! Acid dip alone should have cost an arm and a leg...

Awesome work tho! Would love to see some video of the car in action!

Awesome. I will definitely keep my eyes on you guys. I've been waiting for a super light car build tuned with torque in mind with a supercharger as well. You guys have the recipe for an absurd amount of car control. Great drifting.

A few more pictures!

I thought I would post a few more pictures from the Ultimate 86 build...Heres an overhead shot of the N1 Concepts bodykit we are using...Can you say wide!!

Here's one of our Billet Velasco stroker crankshafts

and custom steel rod...

A big supercharged V8 needs lots of Methanol...Waterman 12 GPM mechanical fuel pump...

It's driven by the dry-sump oil pump...Nice simple installation. No belt issues.

The intake manifold is custom made...Heres a look at the custom flanges. No gaskets! instead nice 'O' ring's...

Here's one of our Quaife 69G six-speed sequential transmissions...

Last one for now...This is the Supercharger gear drive system that we are using...It eliminates the belts that can slip or break and allows for easy tuning/boost changes with a quick change gear drive system.

I'll post more pictures in a few days as the build has progressed a little since these images were shot...Just gotta' find time to make a trip to the shop.
