I say go for it... I bought a morimoto quik retro kit without HID bulbs/ballast etc... and ordered a $32 hid kit from Ebay. I ran them in Okinawa, Japan along with a few locals... it rains A LOT there.... 2+ yrs with zero problems.

I'm sure it'll work, there is nothing special about the FR-S head light circuitry. It doesn't have any Light Bulb Failure monitoring circuitry so it doenst care what kinda bulb it's powering up. All it does is send power out to the wires.
The only question is how good are the bulbs and ballasts. will they last 6 months? 1 year? 5 years? |

Many reviews are from people that have had them for the last couple years with no issues. I think I'm gonna give it a shot.

Also, if you care... The kit I ordered for my r32 gtr & fr-s are Xentec slim's. Light output I got for the R was 5k(very happy with the color/light output, never saw any discoloration). Went 6k with the FR-S this time around, definitely wish I went 5k... too much on the blue side for my liking 5k was just right.

After reading this I cancelled it and will look at pics that show 6k vs 5k. Don't want to get flashed all the time...

I bought a set of them off eBay. I got the 6000k set and it's just a tad too blue for me. I should've went with the 4300k kit the guy offers. I'm going to keep these until I have issues. So far, 3 months and no issues. The only thing I had to do was spread the prongs apart a little in the connectors so they went together properly. My car is parked now for the winter so I'll have to wait until spring to see how long they will last for. A buddy of mine said 6 months and the ballasts will go. So far though, I am happy with my purchase and I have never been flashed by oncoming traffic either. I think that is partly due to our cars sitting so low to begin with. The cutoff is terrible compared to a real-deal retro fit, but it works for me.
One thing I did notice is that anything with a reflector shows up from very far away. Even eyes of critters & deer show up from far away. It has actually warned me of deer in the road from beyond the cutoff line of the lights. This part alone made me happy because it helped me avoid a few close calls already. Ruskymx P.S. I think I have a pic or two somewhere of them. I'll see what I can find. EDIT: No luck, must have deleted them.
