That's because they keep blowing up motors left and right trying to find the right combo for a reliable kit, being able to be produced with a dealer tune and keep parts from breaking so that dealers can focus on non-warranty work. I've heard somewhere in the ballpark of 7-8 eingines blown up in the past 3 months

i think it takes a LOT to blow this little engine up especially with the low boost I'm sure they are using. where r u getting this info from? I guess the lack of tune would do it. |

Not the lack of tune, what Toyota is doing is trying to find a comfortable level to sell the kit to wehre it would adhere to the strict emissions laws and would still be able to handle a canned tune. Companies always tune motors and push tehm to the limits to see where they may need to upgrade components. Not all areas of the country are the same, and they want to make sure that if they are putting out a tune themselves, that it will work in all locations for owners, so that they will not run into any hiccups once the parts are released

work next to the florence site, and have some of the financial analysts as close friends. Sadly, I do not know if/when they will be sourcing the kit.

So, what I am reading here is that there are a ton of people that don't have faith in the tuning ability of TOYOTA. The same company that built a new LeMans prototype, equipped it with a Nisshinbo 500 kJ supercapacitor energy recovery unit, made it work almost flawlessly out of the box and won in it's first year on track against some incredible competition.
Before you come in here and start with the "This isn't the same thing as tuning a production car" blah blah blah. You're correct! It's infinitely harder! Toyota can make this happen in a big way. I understand the need to bench race and speculate, but it's not really helping. Sit back, relax and enjoy your car. When the kit hits the street it will either work for you or it won't. If it doesn't it is a great thing that so many companies have other solution s available. |

I know nothing about supercharges, but I want to know if I buy the TRD and it's relatively modest, once warranty is over can it be tuned for higher PSI and more power to a certain extent?

Most likely yes. However since no one knows details about the TRD kit it is hard to say one way or the other.

personally, for anyone looking at FI, I would not consider this kit a viable option anyways. There are so many better options out there than what this kit will offer

Too late too the ball
in my opinion, TRD is too late. Any turbo or supercharging testing going on right now is probably for an option for a base or turbo/super charged FRS right out of the box in a couple of years. HKS, Vortech, Avo just to name a few are too far ahead and will be far less expensive than anything TRD will offer aftermarket in North america. I remember the Celica GT and GTS were around $8000 difference in Canada and that was only for 40 HP extra in performance. Not worth it.
