Just a thought, but are there any potential NA swaps? F20c perhaps, but nothing with a bit more torque?

I imagine Subaru's 6 cylinder engines shouldn't be that difficult

Just read through this thread and thought i'd mention that i've seen an RB26 power Impreza before; so on this basis a 2JZ shouldnt be an issue in this car (but may require some firewall/bonnet/bumper work). Also i've seen RB26's and 2JZ's in RX7's - now thats a small engine bay!

At the end of the day, with enough money and time you can get any engine to fit any car.

I've done Toyota UZ V8 swaps before now so im looking at the room in the engine bay in the Subaru clear Prototype and i can't help but think about how straightforward it 'should' be building a V8-86

I think you can comfortably go inline 4 without upsetting the car too much, so I would really love to see a 3SGTE and a 1UZ/3UZ go into an FT86 at some point. But i think a straight 6 would be too long for this chassis and totally ruin the handling. Too much engine in front of the suspension mounts.

If I find a blown 86 around town, I might be stupid enough to try and fit a J32A2 in the bay, complete with a gaping hole in the hood

Who are Scion racing and how can they be way ahead of me!? The FT86 hasnt been released yet so nobody (independent of Toyota) can be any further ahead of anyone else on any engine swap

Im thinking 3UZ-FE, XS-Power 2UZ Headers, Castlemaine Rod Shop Bellhousing/Clutch kit, R154 Gearbox, Link G3 Ecu and approx 350bhp at the flywheel totally nasp

I do love the J series of engines, but C30 and C32's must be available? The NSX lump would be crazy in an 86!

C30/32 are expensive! and J32 has a flatter torque band, would be insane with ITBs, big cams, port/polish, aem ems, and race headers. Probably good for 340hp and a flat 300 ftlbs of torque with a 9000 rpm redline. Perfect for a little 86

Wouldn't those engines totally go against the whole low CoG of the car? And I wonder how much more those weigh than the FB20 motor that's going in it now. As we all know weight is a big component of this car. I'm not a fan of subaru but wouldn't an STI motor just make a whole lot more sense?

I like you're idea on the J motor tho Blur, wonder how logistics would work on that.

I don't know much about the engines under discussion. Frankly, I can't even follow all of the references to engine code numbers. But I skimmed this off Wiki:

The J-series was Honda's second V6 engine family, introduced in 1996. It is a 60° V6 – Honda's existing C-series was a 90° engine. The J-series was designed for transverse mounting. It has a shorter bore spacing (98 mm/3.86 in), shorter connecting rods, and a special smaller crankshaft than the C-series for compactness. All current J-series engines are SOHC 4-valve designs with VTEC variable valve timing.

The J-series engine was designed in the United States by Honda engineers. It is built at Honda's Anna, Ohio engine plant.

One unique feature of some J-family engine models is Honda's Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system. The system uses the i-VTEC system to turn off one bank of cylinders under light loads, turning the V6 into a straight-3. The latest Variable Cylinder Management system is able to turn off one bank of cylinders or one cylinder on opposing banks, allowing for three-cylinder use under light loads or four-cylinder use under medium loads.

To me, a V6 that has VCM sounds like a fuel economy engine, rather than a performance engine.

Your assumption sounds accurate Marrk but they weren't very good on gas lol Could possibly be due to the fact that the cars the Js were put into were 3500lb+ boats

Not all Js are alike. I specifically said the J32, which makes 260 hp and 240 lbs of torque stock. here's a stock one in a civic body for performance comparison

[u2b]ogbN936ABkE[/u2b]
no traction in first, second and third LOL.

[u2b]91byk6jVIsU[/u2b]

Although it will be a logistical nightmare lol being transverse and all, it should be worth it. The dynos are impressive. It's going in my car this year, hopefully. There's still somewhat of a bare market to tuning accessories, but the civic guys are making it popular from their swaps. Hasport even makes custom mounts for them now.

All this engine swap talk seems to indicate that people are not really happy with what will be in the FT-86. I know that I am not. It's too complicated.

Not trying to start an argument here. Just a little downcast about the FT-86 engine. That's all.

It's going to be similar to the s2000 or rx8; engine is tuned to absolute maximum, anything you add will either be marginal gains or none, and the only solution will be to go FI for more power . . . some people, like me, prefer NA and have no choice but to look for swaps.
