I can't help but think this is just a glimpse of what's to come.
Think about it...

I don't think this is a sign of a wave of impending thefts...what is the value of stealing an FRS...?

...the gem of an engine (haha, CELS), the stock wheels only a mother could love, the sporty seats...?

Unlike the S2000 (coveted for really nice, swappable seats, and Integra Type-R/1999-2000 Civic Si for their highly desireable, also easily swappable motors...the FRS has no huge parts demand outside of the rather small owner base.

I wonder why he didn't steal a more valuable car? Like a Lamd Cruiser or something? Don't car thieves sell the cars they steal?

I feel like stealing a cheap car is absurdly pointless.

Maybe he wanted an unrestricted test drive. I can't think of a better way to accomplish that. You know, on the spur of the moment.

@hgamit that's awful, but I'm glad it was not stolen or damaged further. If the dealership jerks you around, report back to us. Strength in numbers.

Most car thieves work with chop shop so they steal the cars that are requested
Then the chop shop sells the parts ... Fenders, bumpers, mirrors ... Parts that get damaged in a car accident. to real "legitimate" body shops to do repairs everyone makes money the only person out of luck is the owner the stolen car having to wait for a replacement car or money ... Either way unless they had a buyer for the parts/car already stealing an frs would be pointless ... Or I could be wrong and the guy is as dumb and a brick and tried to steal it because the car look shinny and pretty duuuuuuuuuu

What happens if it did get stolen? Does the dealership replace it with a brand new car?

Shopkeepers insurance should cover the loss if it is in the car custody and control of the dealer, as long as they have it, but regardless, they are liable here, so dont let them out of it. Every penny is on them at this point, unless they have insurance to cover, which they should.

My insurance agent told me that a total of 7 FRS's have been stolen, note that this was in July when i bought the car. He stated it was the main reason the insurance was so expensive, since the car hasn't even been out for a year...

Man..... I would have just moved. Packing up all your stuff and moving to a better part of town or different city/town altogether just sounds easier lol

Maybe you guys are the same way...because it was fenced in, insurance will cover it...the dealership wouldn't care less then, and for appearances would be happy to help...
Same here, at least with Allstate. I was lucky many years ago when I had a car broken into and it happened to be in a locked yard. The shop ended up paying for everything anyways but Allstate mentioned it.

In the OPs case the car was in the service center/building it sounds like so that would have been covered anyways I'd bet.
