My Nokian Hakkapelittaa R act the same way, RoryTate. Slight acceleration and the rear end 'comes alive' and start to wander sideways. Also et 800km on my tires, most of them on snow and ice.

Anyone finding it hard to keep the car in a straight line, what previous cars have you owned/driven?
I don't find this car any worse (or better) than any other rwd car with good weight distribution in snow. If you're coming from a FWD car with a heavy front weight bias it'll be 100% different to drive, and you need to adjust your driving style accordingly.

These tires are DOT approved so they are safe. Where did you see that these were remoulded? I don't see anything about that on the corporate website. http://www.evergreentyre.com/product...1-wz1_111.html This company is not the same company. http://www.evergreenremouldedtires.c..._services.html Last edited by dj petey; 12-18-2012 at 02:25 PM. |

I have a set of General Altimax in 205/50 mounted to the factory wheels.. Had them on my '10 wrx factory wheels when I turned it in. I had them swap the tires over at purchase time. Leftover from the wrx I have a set of summer wheels/tires .. and since here in VA bch it hasn't been cool enough to bother running the winters I'm still on my summer set.
If we dont get cold again this year it will be two years and two cars that I've not been able to actually use this set of tires.

I did some testing today. I took off traction / stability to do some testing on snowy/icy patches and all I have to say is Toyota and Subaru did a great job. I have never once felt out of control with traction and stability on despite the slipping and sliding. The recovery is so good.
Hope everybody else finds the same so we don't get many of these in the ditch this winter. |

Bought some Toyo Garitt 205/45/17, had the same on the Yaris and really liked them. Not desappointed!

Just need a good 10cm+ (4 in+) of snow that stays on the ground without melting (got rain here just after snow) to really test them... |

I have about a week on my Pirelli Sottozero Series II 225/40 18 inch on my scion frs.
First impression: more grip than stock tires but the car feels just a bit slower, less torqy. They also dont make any noise when tire starts slipping. I guess its because of the softer rubber. However, ride became just a bit smother and less bumpy. They provide very good traction in both wet and dry conditions. I didn't get to experience snow yet, but I've heard that they are decent. I used 18 inch wheels that weight pretty much the same as stock. They are 7.5 inches wide. Tire has a lip to protect wheel from being scratched, similarly to the stock ones. I believe that it will make a perfect tire for a region that gets low temperatures, a lot of rain, and about a month combined of snow in a year. It is a winter performance tire, not a snow tire, after all. I live in PA and I'm hoping that it will serve me well. Hope that this helps anyone in making their tire decision. Went out on hard packed side streets today with xice3. It clearly makes you remember it is rwd! Traction & stability control kick in nicely to keep things in line.

It was below -20c all day today, most of the roads were covered with black ice, and my Pirelli SS II worked pretty well. But I was driving slower than most cars on the road.
