BRZ/FRS/AE86 Exhibition Competition Results

Extreme Speed Track Events hosted an exhibition competition open to ALL FRS/BRZ/AE86 on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Streets of Willow in beautiful Rosamond, California. This exhibition competition is aimed to engage all drivers in a nice and friendly competitive environment. This one-make time attack challenge is separated into two very distinct categories that allow competitors to run their vehicles anywhere between stock and full racecar.

Over:
- Race tires or any tire UTOG Treadwear rating 139 or lower
- Forced Induction of any sort (except ram air intakes), or an engine swap that increases stock horsepower output by more than 15%

Under:
- Everything that is NOT included in the Over class, regardless of suspension, aero, gutted interior, etc.

Extreme Speed ran a clockwise configuration at Streets of Willow. This technical course provided all the perfect ingredients to test out the car’s capabilities and challenge the driver’s skill. With ambient temperatures peaking in the low 50s as the sun showed up during the peak time attack sessions, fast times were bound to happen.

Although ambient temperatures appeared to be ideal, the slight wind chill factor kept air temperatures very cool throughout the day. Early morning temperatures were definitely in the high 30s with some cloud cover threatening to produce some precipitation. As the sun started to rise above the horizon, clouds began to press back little by little before the sun decided to show up completely during the 2nd and 3rd sessions of the day. However, the ever pressing storm system moving in from the north started to push thick clouds back into the area. By the 4th and 5th sessions, the track pavement temperatures plummeted dramatically closing the window for better lap times.

The BRZ and FRS crew showed up in full force with more than 15 cars registered to the event. However, not everyone was correctly identified as a BRZ/FRS/AE86 driver for the exhibition competition, so the times posted by these drivers are what were available at the time of awards. This will not be an issue for the 2013 BRZ/FRS/AE86 Competition Series.

In the Over class, Robispec was running against himself. While running some Hoosiers, Robi lapped a blistering 1:25.600. The time in itself is a testament of how capable the car has become after just a month of Robispec development and they’re still not done!

1st Place: Robispec 1:25.600

In the Under class, three registered competitors showed up to attack the track in full force. Coming in 3rd place was Brian Rouse with a 1:35.886 achieved in the cold 4th session. Brian is a track newbie and has already started lapping some amazing times with his stock FRS. Second place was held onto by Steven Choh with a time of 1:33.381 in his BRZ achieved in his 3rd session of the day just as the window for getting his fast laptimes were closing. Coming in 1st with a comfortable lead, Jeff Lushe ran a 1:31.721 in the 2nd session. Those times are definitely fast times posted by the competition. Please give an extended congratulations to these folks on running some amazing times on all running stock suspension.

1st Place: Jeff Lushe 1:31.721
2nd Place: Steven Choh 1:33.381
3rd Place: Brian Rouse 1:35.886

There was some confusion on distinguishing the competition timing. So here are the list of times to honor those who came out to the event (and guys you will be competing against in 2013!!):

Mark Slide Squad (Mark H.) 1:27.560
diirk (Eric D.) 1:35.605

Exhibition:
CounterSpace Garage (Mike Kang) 1:26.459
Chris Williard 1:29.488

CounterSpace Garage brought out their BRZ to run exhibition laps while testing out their new setup. Chris Williard brought his personal FRS to lap a personal record on fresh Hankook RS3s. Amazing times for a car that has been released just 6 months ago.

At the end of the day, temperatures had plummeted back down to the low 40s with a gusting wind chill that must have been in the 30s. While we were freezing our heads off, we have to admit, there is something funky when the BRZ/FRS dash reads 47F and it feels colder than snowboarding/skiing temps. Clearly there must be something wrong with that temp gauge.

Congratulations to all the registered competitors and thank you everyone for attending Extreme Speed’s exhibition competition. Stay tuned for more information about the 2013 BRZ/FRS/AE86 Competition Series!

If your name is missing here, please PM your full name so I can find you in the timing list.

I didn't know we had to identify anything specific. Our cars and names are listed when we sign up.
What else did we need to do?

There were some really fast times posted by some BRZ/FRS drivers out there but you guys didn’t identify yourselves for the actual competition during driver registration in the morning!!

Hmm, I actually identified myself in the morning for the competition with Mike Kang. I was in the "under" class with Hankook RS3's, enkei RPF1's, Buddy Club coilovers, and Project Mu B-force pads as my mods. I ran a best of 1:27.560. So uuuh, what happen?

I did inquire about this issue, but there was an additional process requiring drivers to sign up exclusively as a participant in the BRZ/FRS/AE86 exhibition competition. It is something that WILL NOT be an issue for the Extreme Speed BRZ/FRS/AE86 Competition Series in 2013.

We were on this list in the thread before the event. We signed in at the track for registration, and I asked Joel about the competition. He said ask Mike Kang because he was organizing it. Why was there an additional step for registration that we weren't told about? I even asked Mike personally right after I talked to Joel about it, Mike said it was very informal, and not to worry.
