Two reasons for that
there rookies and dont check dates and there trying to get there post count high like that means anything anyways.

There was this old fourm I was on that if a thread was old it would get locked. I liked that!

That can be bad too though. Bumping technical/how to type threads with new content or questions should be allowed so I've always been against locking them. That's why I've always had those features off on forums I've run.

Locking isn't great...

But old threads shouldn't be revived.

No need to have multiple threads on the same topic; i.e. car color, transmission type, Scion/Toyota vs Subaru...etc. At most only one thread needs to exist instead of multiple threads on the same freaking topic because no one wants to search or scroll to the bottom of the screen.

No one wants to search for a topic find there answer on page 4 and then there reply is on page 54... Cause then it will be well out of context.
