Unfortunately I tend to agree that initial production will be very limited, which also means that anyone who thinks they are going to get either of these cars for 20-21k upon initial release is simply dreaming. I bet limited production and high demand will push the take-home price into the 25-27k range.

Ugh... is it a good idea to just throw yourself onto the car dealer's list (assuming they know what the heck a BRZ/FR-S is...)? Or just wait till its released and see how it goes from there? Do you think the Scion or Subaru version would have less product (per dealer)? ... now to figure out the CA dealers ~_~; I'm never a huge fan of being locked into a place either for a preorder. Any advice?

Agreed. I have never dealt with Scion before, so let me ask this question:
have they ever released a new car at one price and then down the road lowered their "pure pricing"? If they have then they will most likely do the same for this car, otherwise if they have not, that could be good news. |

Local Subaru dealership said that they aren't sure yet if VP pricing will be honored. It'll depend on supply and demand.

This situation is about the only one I can think of where their pure pricing policy will be an advantage for the buyer. With the limited availability, I'm considering whether its a good idea to put a deposit down for one, refundable of course in the event that this car doesn't turn out to be what I want. I've got a bunch of money sitting in the savings account growing almost no interest, I wouldn't even notice a grand or so missing lol

Use common sense - if Scion knows that the demand for this car is high, why would they lead with 19-20k in "pure pricing" and sell "xx" number of limited production cars in the first year, when they could sell the same number of cars for 25-27k given demand...... hello ...McFly.......... ![]() Go ahead and save this post and ready your fingers to hit the quote button: Scion version in the first 8 months of release will be between 24-27k, and the Subaru version 1-2k higher based on the fact they do not have to deal with "pure" pricing.

Actually, I'm presuming that Nasioc is really lowballing the numbers (1k?). As moto alluded at club4ag, 1k is really little and it seems really odd to have it be basically double the LFA production. Oh well, who knows ~_~

I remember when Subaru excluded the STI from programs like this, so I won't be surprised if they exclude the BRZ. More potentially bad news is that supposedly dealerships will be getting only 1 or 2 each.
The good news is that dealerships have been instructed not to mark it up (at least that's what the business manager of my local Subaru dealer told me). I put down a refundable (contingent on test drive) deposit last month. I've never paid MSRP for a car, nor have I ever put down a pre-order deposit. But if the BRZ is reasonably priced, lightweight, and fun to drive, I think it'll be in high demand. |

I'm not opposed to putting down a refundable deposit, but really want to see the cosmetic differences and available options, before choosing to go with Scion or Subaru. Hopefully we will learn that soon.
