I guess that's where I cave to the wallet. I'm not dropping $800+ per wheel on Volks. Enkeis or 6ULRs are light, look alright, and are easy on the wallet. They're not forged, but I don't see them breaking either. The FR-S isn't exactly gunning to shear studs off with its massive torque, so I don't see them bending spokes either. Maybe a happy middle-ground between the two. And hell, maybe the stockers won't be that bad at all.

I used Volk as an example, but you are still making my point. Enkei's are a very good quality wheel, with MAT technology. There's plenty of Enkei copies out there, but as you say, the real thing is not that expensive.

Many enthusiasts will buy name brand, for quality, notoriety, looks, whatever. Many more will by knock-offs. Cheap products can turn out well, and top of the line can still fall apart. Usually your wallet will do the walking no matter what you say.

I try to support legit after-market companies, even the little ones when I can. I can't remember the last time I bought something knock-off for a car... but if I did, it would never be something that is critical to safety or performance... so engine, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires. Maybe I'll buy a knock-off air freshener to feel like a rebel.

I'm a little crazy about parts I buy. I like to wait about 6 months after a name brand part comes out and let other people be the test dummies before I jump in.

As stated above though even name brand companies like fluidyne sell some messed up radiators every once in awhile. However, usually name brand companies are more likely to make things right and replace them.

I'm hoping ams makes parts for the car. Next would be Cobb or Perrin. Knock offs never go on my cars. Just wait a bit longer to buy the part if money is tight.

Research research research! Thats all I do when looking for anything.
What ever my gut feels right after long hours of scanning the net, calling friends and trusted tuners shops do I buy a part.

I've learned the hard way of buying a part because its cheep and/or looks cool, some times you gotta sacrifice money for quality and looks for proformance.

nope. I seem to remember an OBX "Quaife" differential being the best bang for your buck (as far as differentials go) in the last gen Celicas.

I put an OBX header on my Acura 2.2CL and it held up over a few years worth of beatings. Obviously not the best part I could have bought, but at that time I was in high school, not making much money, and for the situation it was a good bang for your buck.

Not putting a header on a 2.2CL probably would have been better "bang for the buck."
