Damn I was going to open a new thread stating that STI has released their short shifter but now I'm afraid lol. So I'll sneak post it here.

"oh, he doesn't get the 86 anymore, he's got something else, we better exclude him of our group". On the other hand though, I can't stop wondering (and I know it is a public place and do whatever the heck you want) why are you still making comments on a forum of car you don't own anymore (or not at least for a while)? I mean no disrespect, but is this forum giving you a sense of belonging or something (despite the fact that you're being threated slightly different than others)? I still believe you make a valid point everytime (wheels magazine, etc) but still, ...I am just wondering and I mean no disrespect, really. You are free to do whatever mate, but maybe i just dont see it. It is fun to have you here though so I see few fun boys gettign but hurt for any "different" opinion! :happy0180:
Don't think I could have said it better - when I said my 2c about monty "still" being around, I probs came across a bit too strong but your post echoes my thoughts in any case - you've just said it in a nicer way.

If you look at my original post, it was just a heads up for anyone who was actually following the wheels COTY, and I guess I got frustrated with seeing the immediate negative from someone who may/may not know a lot about cars, but gets off on labeling others fanboys or being argumentative.

I don't care what car you drive, but this is a 86 forum, for people who own, like or are interested the 86.

I just don't like it when it's people who genuinely like the 86 that get shot down for starting threads about seemingly harmless topics.

Are you for real? So based on that theory Caucasians can't live in Haymarket and straight people can't march in Mardi Gras.

I've been a member of JDMST for five years and only had a Japanese car for two of those. There are threads on Euro, Australian and American cars there that all thrive. No one is flamed for their choice of car. They all coexist.

I don't own an 86 and as such every time I say something negative about it the fan boys tell me to fuck off elsewhere. Check the number of posts I have contributed to here. Somewhat more "thanks" than those that live and breathe the 86 exclusively.

with all respect,
COTY is not the award just for a dream car or a super car but with many criteria it should tick more than others.
IMHO, 86/BRZ is just ticking on more boxes than the others are in 2012 competition.
It is super affordable and undeniably fun to drive and subjectively good looking.
so many first prize to 86/BRZ this year internationally and it can't be wrong with all those evidence.

I disagree that it "ticks the most boxes". Quite the opposite. It's a very niche product. I believe it got these awards because it did exactly what it set out to. Fun affordable sports cars are few and far between. The 86 did it really well. The Porsche 911 & Boxter, Renault Megane RS265 and Volkswagen Scirocco are all much better performance cars as seen in the BFYB & PCOTY challenges but none offered the same level of enjoyment for each dollar spent. If COTY was purely performance based the 86 wouldn't rate a mention, nor would it get the tick for everyday driveability. Why else would the Volkswagen up! Holden Volt, Falcon Ecoboost and Mazda CX5 all be compared? They were all pioneers in one way or another.

Mods - please close this thread or delete offending posts.

Guys, please stop the pissing contest/trolling and lets all have a healthy discussion about the field it was in, the merits of its contenders etc... rather than argue about how an organisations award can be bought.

I for one think the field shows the direction that the automotive industry is headed as well as the challenges that face all motorists in the future

All the COTY finalists thought outside the square, brought something new to the table, with excellent execution.

The 86 opens the floodgates to other manufacturers to produce similar cars. This is a very good thing.

The new and developing technologies previewed in other COTY finalists will hopefully prompt mored development and advancement.

I'm not detracting from what the car is, but what is gives is also very important. It offers a "poor mans cayman" into a segment usually dominated by manic hatches.
