I just brought her in for the 7,500 mile service on Saturday. Toyota/Scion service department marked the "next oil change" sticker for 5,000 miles later?!

I hope not. Im not that far off from you (17,6xx as of this morning). With all the warm weather we've been having I haven't had the excuse to park her in the garage for the winter just yet.

Why does everyone do an oil change at 3k? I thought it said every 7.5k

There is an idea that the first batch of oil shouldn't stay in too long because it contains lots of initial bad metal shavings and other stuff.

After that though, changing your oil every 3k is just retarded and totally antiquated. Not only has the oil and all the additives inside it been hugely improved over the last 30 years, but the components that use them have also been improved drastically.

3k oil changes are for your '90s and under American junk mobiles, and '80s and under old Japanese cars. I might not go as far as 7500 myself, usually around 5-6k...but 3 is just silly and wasteful.

Do keep in mind the 7500 mile interval very specifically says "normal driving/weather conditions", and tells you to do it sooner if you do not fall into that category. I somehow doubt most of these cars will fit into that category. If you drive your car hard and the dealer insists you wait until 7500, grab the manual and show him that section.

Yea, for now I havent been going anywhere for the holidays and work is slow this time of year, so the miles havent been piling on like usual.

I think the factory recommended OCI is 7.5k, but I do mine every 5k. Your best bet is to send a sample to Blackstone and have it analyzed. They can tell you if you can go longer on it.

About half way to 21k miles on the car took delivery in the begining of july, but doesnt bother me one bit i use the car for its intended purpose and my work also was a big part of racking up the miles but i really dont pay attention to the miles counter on the car i focus more on the realtime MPG counter since i use a lot of gas all of the time.
