Just because the car is covered under warranty doesn't make it alright. Car breaks down (time out of your schedule) - transport to dealership/deal with dealership (time out of your schedule) - you are without a car or need to get a rental and deal with reimbursement (time out of your schedule) - bring rental back and collect car (time out of your schedule). Now rinse and repeat multiple times a month at spontaneous/inopportune moments = SURPRISE! Missing work/pay and massive frustration are your reward.

I don't see the car as bad or poorly built, however, it's just going through first/early year teething issues - just like every car ever made.

Best of luck to OP, let's hope Subaru comes up with some permanent fixes soon.

I was under the impression that most dealerships will loan you a car or reimburse you for a rental? inconvenient yes, but like you said every first year or early model anything typically have problems. I feel bad for the jabroni's buying new computers with windows 8 fe.

the underside is open, seems to be exposed! a good bath every week in a touch-free wash will take care of it! professionally undercoated will help too!

if you think the traction control is 'psychotic' then turn it off. unless you trust your own driving ability less then the car.

clean the underside of the car weekly, takes 20 minutes at most. or get this:
http://www.japanparts.com/db/partsli...EY=484-001-007

if your gearbox is that bad then good thing you got a warranty and can get a nice one down the road if necessary.

dont like the tail lights? did you not look at them before you bought the car? snag an aftermarket one.

all your complaints seem like easy fixes to me

More like conflicted. What I want it to do it does very well, just comes with a lot of baggage. Never had to deal with this in a new car beofore.

I do not wash cars. EVER. I restore them from rusted hulks of oxide, I even paint them, but I quit washing cars when I realized that we have a limited number of hours in a lifetime. No payback. No fun.

It will last ten years. Just. Good enough for me. My point is that I dont think it will be in very good shape rust-wise by the end of the ten years. The underside of this car is a bid of a kludge in that it is messy and clutered. I see a lot of places where salt is going to shelter and do its work.

I do oil coat every year. Highly recomended.

All of that shit can be taken care of for free with the warranty, so what are you complaining about?

NOHOME, I'm going to agree with Whaap, better you than me. I didn't think you had ALL the reported issues on your vehicle. Maybe just a case of having a "Glass is half empty" attitude.
While I am sure you know a hell of a lot more about old MGs and working on cars in general than I do, even I realize a newly developed relatively low volume, low priced halo car is likely to suffer from a few flaws.
I received my car within 1 day of their initial arrival in Toronto dealerships. Only issue I have had is condensation in one tail and by the time the part had arrived the water had already dried up.

Sorry for those who have been without their vehicle for weeks while issues are addressed, but that is a very small minority. I had condensation in the lights in my Acura which is a WAY fancier car than this. It's no biggie.

If you have no other use for her then why see how the next 10 years plays out? Dump her now and move on. Her life, and yours, will be better off in the long run. Maybe some other chap would be happy to have this "pretty girl" because they realize just what "pretty" is.

At any rate, it sounds like you have more girls in your stable than just the Scion. So... then if you don't trust this one then just move on and bang the gears on somethingthat you have stashed away in the wings.

Pschycotic traction/stability control, goldfish tailights housing, crunchy gearchanges, CEL lights, a DS window that does not seal when closed and an underside tha looks like it will self destruct with salt all weigh on my mind when I am driving the car. All makes me wonder what the long haul has in store for me.

If you don't like it..... I'll gladly take it off your hands.

P. S. Sorry you've had problems.

If you get condensation in your lights, get some silica gel packets from your local pharmacy (they have a TON of them)...tape/glue a couple onto a string, take your bulb out, put the silica packets in the open hole and leave them overnight. Worked great when I got some condensation in my GTO headlight. Doesn't solve the problem, but it will dry up what is there
