It's weird, I've been having to get used to more common folks checking out my FR-S, and women too! Just today I went for a drive to rack up some more break-in miles and parked at the scenic lookout near my house. I watched one guy do a walk around. A little later a woman also did a walk around and took cell phone pics of it. I've had someone pull along side at stoplight and comment nice car! All my other cars I'm used to only car and Toyota geeks giving them second looks.

I was looking for this thread...a week or two ago I had a guy say "Nice FR-Z" I shot him a look of confusion because I didn't know if he was messing with me. I laughed it off and later a guy made a proper comment.

Well looks like they got plenty of practice. This looks much better than that disaster.

I've only had my FR-S a week and I've already have more comments on it than my 2012 zx6r. Was filling up last night and I had a 10 min conversation with this guy that swore it wasn't a Scion. His exact words, "Scion doesn't make cars like this." The exotic look added to the rarity of the FR-S around the Phoenix area get me a lot of looks and questions. And of course, a lot of kids trying to race me from stoplight to stoplight lol.

Also had a guy race up next to me in an older truck during 5 o'clock traffic in Phoenix on the I-10, roll down the window, give me a thumbs up and yell "nice car". Funny thing is the lane he got in to give my car a compliment ended up getting off the 10 and onto the I-17 so he ended up flooring it and crossing the solid white line and almost rear ending another car to get back on the 10 lol.

Haha, my neighbor had close to the same reaction when I brought it home last Sunday. He's a car enthusiast though. Was working on a sick 00-04 Mustang GT for the past 6 months or so and just sold it a few days ago.

I had one guy scream nice as he passed me. A guy in an S2k tried getting me to race two days ago. And another guy in an M-coupe stared obsessively while we were driving through traffic. Its a bit odd to have so many people staring, Im not used to it.
Same here, I need to hurry up and get my windows tinted. It feels like the world is watching me every time I get in the car lol.

The second day I had my FR-S, I was outside installing the Grimmspeed front plate bracket and it seemed like every car guy from my apartment building was stopping to admire or ask questions about it. That never happened with my Evo X or 350Z. Also, a girl that was behind me in traffic took a picture of it with her iPhone - at least it looked like she did. She might have been taking a duck-face profile pic with the front facing camera ... but I like to think she was admiring the car.

I was at a stoplight, a man next to me honk at me and rolled his window down asked me what car is it. I told him a Scion but he got no clue so I just said a Toyota.

I had a crazy one today.

I was in traffic at a red light waiting for the green, and it was raining rather heavily as well. There was a guy in a nice white Lexus right behind me.
Suddenly I hear someone knocking on my window door. I open the window and the guy in the Lexus was right besides me. He got out of his (running) car to ask me what brand it is / asking me if it's something new.
So after I briefly explained it to him, he got back to is car almost shouting 'nice car!'.
Note: I had the GT86 logo and Toyota name removed from the back of my car. So people can still see it's a Toyota, but nothing more.

This makes you feel sooo good

They're Calling It "The Poor Man's Porsche"

I want everybody here to consider starting something subversive. I too have had people admire my FR-S. Some know what it is, others aren't so sure and ask me what it is. In either case I'm leading with the line "They're calling it the Poor Man's Porsche." I first heard the phrase in High School (in the 1960's) from a Porsche owner who dismissed Carmen Ghias as the poor man's Porsche.

Recently I found this quote: from Edmunds. “Think of it as a poor man's Porsche 911 and it feels just fine.”

If we go with the "Poor Man's Porsche" moniker it will position our cars, and us, as smart. All the fun at less than half the cost. Sure we could buy something more expensive, but why overspend to over-compensate. We're all completely secure in our manhood. It's a shame about those Porsche owners.

I prefer "True Hardtop Miata" but to each their own.
