Track time for noobs

Hi, I want to take my frs to a track but I've never been there. I' d like alesson and then some track time for myself. What would be the best way/place to start? I live in south bay of sf. How did you do it the first time? Any suggestions welcome. Thank you in advance.

Vb, you don't really just "take a lesson" when it comes to tracking your car. I'm on the east coast, so you can wait for some advice for specific groups to run with from some of the west coast guys. Pick a group and read up on there requirements, including what you'll need ahead of time - car inspection, helmet, etc... Some groups may have some prerequisites for the driver as well. For instance, the group I instruct with (PCA Potomac) has a special one day event designed specifically for brand new drivers that they require before attending a "regular" track (DE) day. They will also accept attendence at 3 autocross events instead of the novice track event as well.

Every event I've been to has worked the same way - you get a specific instructor assigned to you for the entire event. Listen to your instructor and have fun!

This is PCA Potomac's FAQ in DE's, but a lot of the items will apply to all clubs:

BMW Club has pretty decent DE's that will get you safe, and ready to start tackling things on your own.

I'd say jump in your car right now and drive down to SoCal. ExtremeSpeed is running this weekend at Willow Springs; free instructors for beginners, free lunch, etc. There's already over a dozen BRZ/FRS's signed up plus the usual assortment of other cars.

I'll see you in the morning.

For NorCal, the best organization to run with your first time out is hooked on driving. Period. I've run with the majority of the groups around here and HOD takes the best care of their novices. www.hookedondriving.com

BMW Club is a good place to start. They start you with a Car Control Clinic (CCC), which is a lot of fun to get to know your car. You can then sign-up for a number of HPDE's at Thunderhill, Infineon (Sonoma), and Laguna Seca. You get an instructor to help you at whatever level and it is fun. Also, the really like the FRS/BRZ in their schools, despite it being a BMW Club. The for CCC, you don't even need a helmet. They also have autocross if that's your thing.
