EcuTek Tuning advancements unleash unlimited possibilities

If you've been following me on my facebook you'll see me talk and hype about EcuTek Phase 3 giving little to no detail of what it is.

Today EcuTek decided to announced to their dealer network a HUGE step forward in factory ECU tuning.

RaceRom Custom Maps ! (See news letter below for details)

GTR Phase 3 RaceRom brings custom maps to the GTR ECU!

BRZ Phase 4 RaceRom brings custom maps to the BRZ ECU!

These past months a few calibrators from all over the world have been using Phase 3 RaceRom on the GTR and Phase 4 on the BRZ

I'm proud that I've been part of this awesome progress.

I've been able to take my calibrations to the next level using Phase 3/4 RaceRom.

With this new custom ECU code the possibilities are almost endless.

Recentlty my biggest accomplishment using this new code have been getting the GTR to become a real Flex Fuel vehicle.

This hardwork will shortly ported over to all my BRZ tunes

This is what EcuTek said in their newsletter:

Announcing RaceROM Custom Maps

The engineers at EcuTek have just released a brand new RaceROM feature - Custom Maps...

RaceROM Custom Maps allows the tuner to modify the behaviour of the factory ECU by inserting additional maps into the ECU's normal calculations for parameters such as (but not limited to) ignition, fuel, boost & VVT. This facility lets you add custom compensations or even completely replace the calculations that are normally used.

RaceROM Custom Maps is currently available for the Subaru BRZ, Toyota FT86 and Scion FR-S, and will be available soon for the Nissan GT-R.
RaceROM Custom Maps in Action

Below are some scenarios in which our beta testers have successfully used: RaceROM Custom Maps:
• Per gear fuel enrichment factor. (High Speed Enrichment)
• Vehicle speed based ignition retard. (Valet Mode)
• Torque reduction for oil temperature. (Reduces power until engine oil temperature is inside the specified threshold)
• Throttle reduction for airflow. (Controls overboost or coolant based torque reduction)
• Torque reduction for wheel speed differential. (Custom traction control)
• E85 enrichment factor for injection volume. (Dual fuel support)
• Wastegate duty control for boost or airflow error (Boost control for naturally aspirated vehicles by re-purposing the Carbon Purge Canister solenoid as used on our Supercharged BRZ prototype)

RaceROM Custom Maps Example
This section gives an example of how to setup RaceROM custom Maps to provide an ignition compensation based on Engine Speed and Manifold Pressure:
1. Select the size of your Custom Map
16 custom maps are available for use in the following sizes: 30x24, 24x20, 20x16, 12x12 and 28x8. This selection allows for both high and low resolution maps, as well as specifically sized ones such as the 28x8 which can be used for per-gear specific maps. We're going to use a 12x12 map for our ignition compensation table.

2. Choose the X and Y Axis inputs
There is a pre-defined list of inputs such as: Engine Speed, Airflow, Boost, Gear, Torque, Air Temperature, Oil Temperature and Engine Coolant Temperature. You can also select the output from one custom map to be used as the input to another.

3. Decide what output you want to modify
You can choose to add, subtract, multiply or replace an existing value. You can also make the map a minimum or maximum value or an activation threshold for other custom maps. For our example we're going to add the values from our map to the final value for ignition advance.

4. Enter the values in your new map to achieve your result.
This is our populated table for Engine Speed and Manifold Pressure compensation for Ignition Advance. We've set it up so that at low load, low RPM the timing is advanced, and at high load, high RPM we reduce timing to prevent knock, and under normal conditions the ignition timing is unaffected.

5. Choose further conditions for the custom map to be used
You can also set further conditions for activation so your maps are only used under particular circumstances:
o Activation Definition - This allows you to choose an input and a threshold value which can be used to activate or deactivate the map. E.g. The map is only enabled when vehicle speed is above 40 km/h. You can choose between a minimum or maximum threshold with a hysteresis, or a range with a minimum and maximum value.
o Activation Delay - A time period after activation before the map can become active.
There is also an option to enable the map only in certain RaceROM modes or when Speed Density is active.

This is just an example of what can be done. Some of our beta testers have set up custom feedback control systems and even a traction control system to reduce torque when the wheels slip. More examples will be included in the RaceROM Custom Maps User Manual.

RaceROM Custom Maps - Data Logging
Each of the inputs and outputs to the custom maps are available as live data parameters, so you can log the operation of your custom features.

To verify that your custom maps are behaving as expected, you can view the output of a custom map as a live data parameter without having it applied to the actual calculation.

RaceROM Custom Maps - Further Information
This newsletter only shows a brief selection of the features of RaceROM Custom Maps. More information is available in the user manual. Both the RaceROM Custom Maps user manual and new RaceROM Feature Files for the Subaru BRZ, Toyota FT86 and Scion FR-S are available on EcuTek Update.
RaceROM Custom Maps is currently available for Subaru BRZ, Toyota FT86 and Scion FR-S. Custom Maps support for Nissan GTR will be released soon.

---

Embrace the future - RaceRom!

Are you able to disable/replace the stock software Auto LSD/EBFD? Hope to see a better ECUtek version of TC replacing it.

Nice. I'm definitely interested in valet mode and Torque reduction for oil temperature, but unless ECUtek can keep your previous map selection saved through a restart, it won't be very useful.
Any new updates on that front?

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but does this mean VVT could be added to the FR-S just through a tune?

Huh? It already has VVT in the form of dual AVCS.
