18" wheels for Auto X ?
Ok I autocross about 6 times a year or so (maybee much more in 2013)and would like to go with some very good light weight rims/stickey tires but it seems the 17x8,9,etc is what the pac runs for STX. My problem is I really like the "look" of the 18" diameter in relation to the wheel well on my FRS. what are some thoughts about 18" for autocross?
Thanks |

yea, that is what I was thinking. I would rather have a combo that feels right over looking the best. I am coming from a miata that was very sensative to wheel weight changes and know what the wrong wheels feel like.

+ another on 17s...
17x9 Weds on 245s only weigh 1/2 lb more than stock per corner. The difference in grip is mega...

One more vote for 17's man. Check out the Weds they really look nice on the car, the rpf1's look small but the weds look bigger because of the face design. Im sure you would be pleased with the performance and looks of these in 17. Also keep in mind if you ever plan to go BBK the 17x9 +45 rpf1 does not clear the bbk's out there, the weds do.

If you are just going to be autocrossing for fun and to make yourself a better driver, you'll be fine with the 18" wheels. If you are trying to be in the upper part of the pack, then you'll want the 17" wheels.
Personally, I go autocrossing a few times a year (6 or 8) to have fun, hang out with friends, and get some seat time. I'm not trying to beat the guys that are there every week; I'm just trying to improve my own skills. |

haha with my limited skill set there is no way ill be uber competative against the pack in STX here in my area for me its mostly fun ..but at the same time I want the car to feel light on its feet and can not afford to experiment. I just feel that the car looks better on 18's but the more I research the more i find that 18's would be too heavy

+1 on the Enkei RFP1 in black, also looking at the Michelin PSS. Mostly street driving and one or two HDPE's

You're not going to be able to tell the difference in the weight between the 17's and 18's. The difference only matter for those way better than either of us fighting for that tenth of a percentage point of improvement.
People swear by the Enkei's just because they're the best bang for the buck weight/quality wise. They're not the best in any specific category.
