avoid contact with skin, as with all oils, especially synthetics! wear nitrile gloves, use a fluid pump, and catch pan

Thanks for the tip. I got Pentosin confused with Palmolive.

Fluids in stock for those who were looking ^

I had a few conversations at the professional racing industry show (PRI) this weekend with oil manufactures. I'll post that up as well as some pictures soon.

Nice post here about a quality solution that could really help with such an annoying problem as well as a potential longevity solution to help combat premature wear. I wanted to just throw in my two cents when it comes to differences between say Toyota and BMW. I worked with Toyota as a techncian about 3-4 years ago and one thing I can say about them versus what I know abut BMW is how they market their products. Toyota's bread and butter big money maker in their service department is really pushing services which mostly consist of changing out fluids every 30k. There is no need for them to push a premium blend given the cost of the vehicle and also since it would be more wise for them to try and make more money with the customer bringing their car in shorter intervals.

When it comes to different German makers, which I believe BMW is included the maker likes to eat the cost of services for the first 60k-100k intervals as a marketing ploy which can include lubrication if needed. Guaranteeing their manual oil to last 100k miles can really cut down the bottom-line cost for the car maker when they are essentially giving out free services.

Also FWIW concerning Toyota testing the fluid to make sure its the proper fluid is just not the case. When it came to R&Ring transmissions of course the tech had to determine whether or not he thought the fluid might of been the main cause for the premature failure which is the only reason it would of been warrentied, but before we were to send the core transmissions back to Toyota the fluid had to be properly drained and there was no analysis that had to be made. The one car that basically had problems with improper fluid would be some 4Runners which a defective radiator causing the coolant and trans fluid to mix which would result in a failed transmission making a strawberry milkshake. I did not ever have to take a test analyisis of that fluid either to write-up the CCR report.

BMW also gets incentives by being able to show that their cars do not need to use petro consumables as often, so they get a taxation break in short.

We get a killer oil product for the end user; its expensive but not a bad deal if you like quality.

Alright so I've been running Pentosin MTF-2 for about 2.5 weeks now. Climates have been really random. I've had 25F mornings and earlier this week I had mornings that were in the 50's. Thing is, Pentosin handled them both amazingly. At 50, I was able to shift into second as if the car was fully warmed up (I do a ~3 minute warm up, enough to move the thermostat needle to the 6Oclock position). The mornings where I was in the 20's it felt even better than a cold start in the summer.

As far as "feel" of the shifts it's a bit tough to say. I had @Esoteric perform my fluid swap and while I was down there, the owner of the shop threw on a Perrin shifter bushing. The combination of the fluid and the bushing are amazing. I can't imagine going back to stock fluid or stuck shifter bushing at this point. Once fully warmed up the shifts are extremely smooth without that "sloppy" feeling I was worried about from an overly smooth fluid. This is probably because of the shifter bushing. If you're thinking about changing to Pentosin, stop. DO IT. DO IT NOW. Get a Perrin shift bushing while you're at it too.

If anyone is in the Philly area I highly suggest contacting Esoteric for help with the trans fluid/anything else. Really cool shop, extremely nice guys. I will gladly support any shop that is as careful (actually more) with my car than I am.

I have not tried this yet,but i have noticed on these colder mornings that the 1-2 shift it tougher until the transmission builds some heat.Once its warmed up it shifts fine. Will probably do it when I hit 10k.

Pentosin+Perrin shift fork bushing + Whiteline tranny mount bushing + WL rear x-member bush ... is where ITS at, btw. I have my reason for liking the WL setup over Perrin in this instance. The solution above will have you reaching for the kleenex..promise

Want to work for us? hehe Are you in Denver, or west coast?

You have a great list of mods. Good oil, charger and suspension choice. I think we were separated at birth.
