I can agree with that.

I think 2800-2900 lbs might be too skeptical (even for me), but 2400 lbs? Not a freaking chance. Not for 21 grand.
It also has a lot to do with the chassis. Compared next to the FT, the yaris chassis will be a noodle. Extra reinforcements are placed in the car to make it handle better, and this obviously makes it heavy.

2800-2900 is pretty skeptical, agreed. Probably to the point of lowering your expectations way too low.

2400 would be a work of engineering art on a $21k car, and is way over the "raising your expectations toooo high" mark. I choose the middle ground. 2600 is very doable at this price range.

Also, to correct you about the 1300kg remark: Tada was talking about the concept car, not their plans on the actual production car. And if I'm not also mistaken, that information was translated by someone on a blog. So its also highly unreliable. 1300kg puts it at ~2900lbs. Thats extremely heavy for a car this size, and is ~300lbs over what their original production plans for this car were. I really don't see them making that an "Acceptable" final weight. Thats just not Toyota-like.

Here's something interesting.

It is also expected that Subaru will be using their ever popular turbocharged horizontally-opposed "boxer" 4 cylinder to drive the upcoming concept. It is not yet official if Toyota will also be using a Subaru boxer, which is what the concept originally debuted with, or if they will use one of their own.

Of course I say....What? Not official? Its all they've been talking about! Low-center of gravity this and that. But its fun to open up an old topic! lol.

How current is that? I'm pretty sure that Toyota has confirmed a NA 2.0 boxer
