BPS Shortshifter for FRS review
phew what a pain in the ass to install because I literally did it twice. I put the reverse lockout too far to the left so it was moving into reverse without pulling the shifter up. only realized it after i put everything back together and tried to shift into first but kept hitting reverse instead
The pin and washer which is included are a little tough to put on but I managed it.took about 3 hours. my experience with working on cars consists only of installing my nameless header back exhaust, which I first installed without the donut gasket. I guess I like to do everything twice... double the experience! Didn't do anything for second gear notchiness, wasn't expecting it too, but I love the shorter throw! With the shorter throw, it feels like it's easier to push (pull?) it into second, but I still need to change that tranny fluid to try and get rid of that notchy almost grinding feeling when it's cold. Wish the knob was about quarter inch lower; however, when I drive, i rest my arm on the cup holder so that's probably why I want a lower knob. At the moment I grab the stock knob really low and rest my thumb going up the back of the knob. That creates the feel of a lower knob. All in all, EXCELLENT upgrade. well worth the money. Goes perfect with my clutch pedal that I dropped to the floor (grabs an inch off the bottom, took a few trials but that's the lowest it goes without falling to the floor overnight ). All it needs now is less rotational mass to get the rpms to fall faster between shifts. With the lowered pedal and shorter throw, I feel like I'm waiting ages for the rpms to drop so I can finish the shift. If you're thinking about the shifter, do it. the red looks awesome. just make sure you set aside 1-4 hours if you're new to working on cars. |

woops, posted this in another thread by mistake, but the clutch grabbing an inch off the floor is poor adjustment. fire your mechanic. it should be 85mm to 100mm off the floor.

If you follow every step in the DIY you should be fine. You need to make sure your clutch isn't partially engaged and the way to do it by making sure the gear indicator is working by displaying current gear.

When you bought your car, the salesman put this magic item in your glovebox. Only those granted wisdom and destined to be great warriors will be able to locate it and understand it's meaning.

You know, I skimmed the manual, never saw it. I guess I'll have to skim deeper. Thanks for letting me know that's where the information resides.
