They could have minor recalls on electrics but powertrain/suspension/mechanics should be bulletproof after their expert test engineers have had their go on it.

True. The first two model years of the G35 sport coupe came with Brembo brakes. Then Nissan cut costs by not having them for all subsequent years.

^This!

My 2005 Tacoma was a 1st yr production and from a complete redesign from the previous Taco. I have 150K miles and the only problem I had were the minor recalls so it wasn't too bad, not like the 5th Gen Camaro bad!

Not that I doubt Toyota but brand new engine and body is enough for me to wait.

I've got a first MY Kia, and it's been rock solid for over 20k miles. So Toyota should have absolutely no excuse lol.

Well, since I'm a chick I guess that kills that theory lol

Thanks for the responses guys, it's definitely giving me some food for thought. Like I said, I trust toyota and after owning some used cars, I want something that is not just new to me, but brand-spanking new that I know the maintenance on. Its just the brand new engine brand new body that gives some concern, and I've never trusted or liked subaru and they are the builders of said engine.

well it is a modified everything pretty much that we know at least and while subie is building the engine toyota gave it a redesign pretty much toyota engineered the design but it will be built in a Fuji Heavy Industries factory at least from everything I have read and can remember

Me, too. And I wouldn't mind more discussion of this point, i.e., Subaru build quality, reliability, maintenance issues (for the driveway mechanic). Just anything would be helpful for me.
