Today was my first time I noticed the chirping noise after spending countless hours on these forums since I got my FR-S a couple weeks ago.

My FR-S was manufactured in September and I have 600 miles on it. I picked it up a little over 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure if that has to do with anything that may have been corrected when the car was released in the earlier months but in case that may make a difference I thought I'd share.

I just noticed it tonight when I parked my car, opened the door, and was about to get and I'm like wtf... It's definitely to cold for crickets (obviously). Anyways, I closed the door and could still hear it, but not as loud.

I'm very new to the forums and don't really know shit about why this might be happening or if it's serious enough to where I should go into my dealer and say something or ride it out...

Any suggestions and/or knowledge on the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Wait for a proper fix. Toyota and Subaru don't have a fix right now other than to replace the fuel pump, which doesn't appear to be anything more than a temporary remedy since many are reporting that the noise comes back after a short while.

^Also, the chirping/crickets do not have any effect on the engine or performance, yet.

Toyota... or Scion, does have a fix to the problem. You just have to bring the car in and let them fix. I have heard mixed stories, some people no longer gets the crickets, others still do. It's a hit or miss type of thing, might as well bring the car in to the dealership and try.

I had the updated parts done by Subaru dealer yesterday, took them less than 2hrs total including ECU update and GPS/Navi TSB. Spoke to a SOA rep there and he stated they have had ZERO reports of the chirp returning after the new parts are installed. He urged anyone with a BRZ (Subaru Only) to contact SOA with VIN# if they've had the chirp return after new parts installed. That's the only way we'll get a more permanent fix (if needed).

My chirp is gone for now, 100 miles since fix. Will update here if any changes.

Proof? Do you have a VIN for a BRZ that's had the fix and makes the noise?

Not doubting you, just that according to SOA there is no one coming forward.

I reported my case at least two weeks ago, sent a video of the noise to SOA CS, then the dealer confirmed the noise, and this week Subaru engineer dropped by to examine it. So, yeah, BS.
I posted about it in the other thread.

Mine started making the chirping noise after a few hundred miles took it straight back to scion they ordered the parts for it but say they are on back order and have been for over a month so mine is still stuck with the noise.

I got mine done and within 1000 miles the chirping was back...and now it's louder than it was before. I can actually hear it with my windows up.

I filled up at a cheap gas station and for the first time heard something that sounded like chirping at idle. Ran that tank down to half, then filled up at my usual Shell station. No more crickets.

I'm at around 2200 miles now.

The FR-S I test drove was chirping. I noticed it when I poked around under the hood, but it was loud and clear with the hood closed as well. I'm used to differentiating between lifter tick, pulley clicking, spun bearings, etc, etc... The chirping noise is quite unique.

First model year growing pains?
