Why would they call it a Celica? I don't see how Toyota could call the concepts 86's, compare it almost exclusively to the 86, and then release it as a totally different name's successor? That makes no sense at all. It would be like GM pushing a new Firebird concept for years, hyping up the Trans Am heritage, then finally get to production and release it as a Sunfire.

So.....? You're point is? You call your breakfast Sausage Bangers too. I guess that means Jimmie Dean is going to name his sausage something else just for you? As a marketing Director he's got a job to do, and that's stirring up interest. He can say any name's on the table. That's so noncommittal it's not even funny. It gets people talking which is his job. Get someone who matters over at Toyota Japan and I'll be interested. References by who? Also does that mean it's going to be named 2000GT? Again, the Media doesn't name Cars. Toyota does. So the Media can call it the snakebitten rolling turd. It doesn't mean a thing. People know what Corolla is too. Your point? Honestly you don't know what I have and have not heard. But I do know that Australia is a such a small market, there's no way Toyota is going to name it Celica there, and no where else. Duh, FR-S. Again, so what? What does that have to do with it being named Celica everywhere else? Quote:

Hey I like the 2000GT name! They wont call it a Corolla coupe as its not the image they're going for, but 2000GT would work!

Aside from 5 of my Friends that are born and raised in Australia (and still live there) this site http://www.australiatravelsearch.com.au/trc/slang.html says it's Australian. Perhaps the British do too, but either way it's a moot point. That's the best you can do? Greater than references? You realize this makes you look like a 2 year old. LOL really? What Toyota Vehicles do you have in Australia that are that name for only that Market and were driven by Toyota Australia and not Japan? You get your news from the National Enquirer don't you? A Matrix? What? That has literally nothing to do with the conversation. Perhaps on second thought you don't understand the question. My point is just because people know a name does not mean it will get chosen. People know the Corolla, one of the Corolla models was the AE86. You know that car that they have been jumping up and down pointing at saying this is what they want you to think of. The Corolla shares more in common with the FT-86, and is a Car people know. Therefore by your logic that should be it's name. How would I know? Pretty easy. Pay the slightest bit of attention. Just because you live in a different country doesn't mean it's not incredibly simple for me to find out what's going on over there. The Cold War is over remember. So, now how about producing these references that Toyota Reps have made to the Celica. I'm interested in reading them. Since you say they exist, they must right?

Oh the Toyota Echo? You mean this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Yaris ? And this http://seattle.craigslist.org/search...inAsk=&maxAsk= And this http://www.google.com/search?aq=f&so...&q=toyota+echo You know the Toyota Echo that we got in the states. For starters you're off to a horrible start. So please continue. The Matrix is a model of the Corolla, just like the AE86. Yes ok. So where were you trying to go with that? Did you just want to spout off random models? Are you going to go Hatchback, Coupe, Sedan next? Why in the world would I waste my time searching for something I could care less about? The problem is you are the one that's convinced they are going to name it Celica, and keep making statements to the effect. So since you're the one making the statements if you want me to read them, you'll have to search for them and show them to me. As far as I'm concerned they don't exist. I know they won't name it Celica in Australia or anywhere else. So far you have exactly zero people that agree with you. So, if there's so much proof to back up what you say, show me. unless you can't in which case it means you're full of shit.

How about Aurion? Got that one? We had the Avalon, but we dropped that name because it sucked. How about Hilux? No? You guys call it the Pickup? Did Toyota Japan decide to call it Pickup for USA only? Really? |

Want more proof we choose the names? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Auris "The Auris succeeds the Corolla RunX in Japan and the Toyota RunX (no Corolla badging) in South Africa. Just to cut in, we don't call breakfast sausages bangers in the UK. Banger is a class of sausage btw, not a slang name for a sausage.
Well, no one I know from the UK, which is quite a few people as you can imagine, calls them bangers. So stop being racist and propagating Stereotypes you damn aussie criminal and fat yank! |
