The shift-up indicator does not have a sound and it does not use the red line shift light by the tach, it just displays a gear number with an arrow where the gear number is normally shown and indicates which gear you should be in for the best fuel economy. Each time it changes it flashes three times.

On both the manual and automatic the current gear is always shown and this cannot be turned off. This is a separate function from the shift-up indicator but displayed in the same space.

The rev indicator flashes and there is a buzzer when the red line is hit. It can also flash and play the buzzer at an rpm before the red line (2000 - 7400), which can be customized. Even if it is customized, it will still flash at the red line. The buzzer can be turned off with the rev indicator light still activated, or both can be turned off.
Tach sweep sounds fun but pointless. Shift light at redline is cool, but I will definitely turn off the buzzer. My RX-7 had a buzzer and it drove me insane!

The gear indicator blinks three times to show you what gear you should be in for best efficiency? That sounds annoying. My Audi shows the efficient gear in green next to the actual gear in white, but it doesn't blink at me... I imagine the boxer will be loud enough so you know what gear you're in most of the time, unlike the Audi which is so frikkin' quiet I can be doing 80mph in 3rd and not notice.

Did I miss the FR-S manual? I have the BRZ manual but where do we get the FR-S one? Thanks.

He has access to Toyota employee/dealer network TIS which has it posted.

My Defi gauges in the ITR do it and it annoys me every time I drive the car. To me it's just pointless movement and motor usage, or whatever moves the needle on oem gauges I guess

It's definitely interesting to get varying opinions on it. I guess it's best to never take anything for granted. You never know when a certain detail will bother somebody in some way.

Personally, I think the fact that these things are included in the car and can be turned on and off at the user's discretion is great.

I know I'm going to leave all that shit on. I like the tach sweep, and will probably use that 'shift up for best economy' light for the first couple hundred miles

I wonder why they opted to only have the sweep on the tachometer, though. My Legacy has a sweep for all gauges, so this will be an "adjustment."

I don't even notice it in my STi anymore (I've owned it for about 2 years now).

To be fair the Defi's also do a bit of a light show, which definately makes them even more annoying. There's probably a chance I wouldn't notice just the sweep without all the lights.

Either way, they let us turn it off so I won't even need to worry about it

Mine came on after setting the shift light. I thinks it's kinda cool. Don't care too much either way. I like it though. And most of the time, the engine is too loud at WOT to hear the shift beep... so to those who find it annoying, shouldn't be a huge issue, especially with an exhaust.

I would just leave it all on. If it annoys me, then I'll turn it off. I'd rather give features a chance to make themselves useful and/or impress me. If they do neither, then they go off.
