Lots of people are running E85 daily in WRX/STI motors and Evo motors using regular unleaded fuel pumps (Walbro 255) and Injectors (Deatschwerks, etc). I wouldn't worry. Today's fuel systems have to handle low amounts of Ethanol anyways, so they are already resistant to the corrosive effects. I'd just use a good Ethanol additive like Lucas' Ethanol Treatment just to be on the safe side.
Considering how strong this engine is turning out to be, I'm getting closer and closer to voiding my power train warrany.... |

Good to know how much E85 can do to make the fun more enjoyable. Are you still 100% stock or did you added some boltons?
EDIT: Besides the flash

Yes but I don't how much long term and short term trim can adapte.
If it's up to 25% like on VW world then you will be safe with 60% E85 in your tank. Specialy if that car have wide band O2 sensor that work on close loop eve n at WOT like on VW R32 for example |

You will damage your engine if you run E85 without a flash. The engine needs about 30% more E85 than petrol. If you just fill up with E85 your engine will run super lean which can actually melt parts of the pistons.
Just don't do it. |

I've been using E85 on my off road race truck since 2009. The fuel will destroy RC engineering injectors. But new ev14 Bosch injectors are compatible.
The biggest issue I have seen are related to some Oxidizing. But this quietly goes away if run through a small amount of gasoline. Gelling can acure too but this also goes away with running gasoline through. http://www.bosch-motorsport.de/conte.../html/2659.htm The Key here is The new components are made to handle the E-85. For some reason the RC Nippon Denso will completely clog and shut Down I have gone round and round and those injector's. They are hell on Earth Stay away if you run on alcohol. As far as Storage is concerned I have had no problem storing it for up to 10 months. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quick-Fuel-E...4a4edf&vxp=mtr I have used this tester and had it compared to real lab results, it was within .05 % accuracy and that close enough for me. The E85 I put in my car was stored since April so thats 8 months it tested out at E90. Keeping it Sealed is the most important issue. If it's not sealed it will off gas and loose the Alcohol making it come out at e50 or worse. Testing your stored fuel is key. Also if you live in an area with a lot of humidity you can have some water issue but as long as you store it sealed it will be fine. If you dont drive your car a lot then use 91 oct. |
