E-85 = holy Falk

Let me just start by saying I have owned plenty of turbo charged cars. My last longest relationship was with a 95 240sx turbo KA that I got rid of for my FRS.

The FRS is the slowest thing I have ever driven. My F150 eco boost would destroy it. Going through the corners was it's only saving grace. After owning it for a Three of months I have put a tune on it.

I live in San Diego So I opted for the 91 and E85 Tune by Visconti.

On 91 the car immediately pulled harder and had more torque. This got better as I drove it around last week. All the little feature he add are cool to. The auto blip seems to work right when I really needed it.

Over the weekend I filled the car up with some E85 I had laying around in a can. Car starts ok, takes a couple of hits to the starter. After driving it over the weekend to the store and back I could tell it had more power.

All changed when last night on my way home I took the same road I always do. I found myself hauling complete ass like 95 around a corner. It then dawned on me this car is finally making some real power enough that I actually have to make sure I'm not speeding. Gone is the horrible torque, car easily pulls from 2500 rpm and screams at 7500 RPM.

At this point until I really see almost no need for forced induction. I was dead set on adding another 100 hp to this car but after driving it with E85 it's just fine. I think some wider tire's in the rear may be in order though.

If you have access to E85 get this tune it pretty bad ass. Best part is if I'm low on gas I can just switch back to 91.

Forced induction is fun But I think a turbo maybe too much power with out the supporting mods. I currently have KW suspension, sticky Michelin Pilot sports, and Stop tech Pads with Motul Brake, trans and rear end fluid.

Maybe after the Brakes and handling is better adressed. I can then add some MORE POWER.

Gregg

E85 really wakes up the car. I'm waiting to get and put on the power mods I have planned before getting tuned for 93 and E85. Unfortunately E85 stations aren't abundant near me. My have to get a storage drum and keep a small amount on hand.

I'm not as bad as some people, but the closer station is in a completely different direction that I generally travel, and the other is a little further and slightly detour as well. I might just keep two 5 gal jugs in the trunk and fill them and replenish the supply from time to time.

What kind of gas mileage are you getting on the E85 tune? I'm thinking low 20's if that.

The eco boost 150's run low 15's/high 14's.... which is inline with a stock 86. The torque definitely makes it "feel" faster, though.

I agree with E85 really waking the car up. For me it was a 20whp/10ftlb difference. I made 174 with exhaust, 180 with I/E/Visconti 93 tune, and 200 with I/E/Visconti e85 tune.

I don't plan to run it year round. I will throw a few tanks in here and there until I go F/I. I'm used to 300+ whp, so I'm hoping a basic F/I kit will at least put me in the 250-260 range. That would be a great balance for the car.

Enjoy the e85 man!

I'm Getting around 18-20. I have a 55 gallon drum I keep at my house. Harbor Freight sells a air pump thats works great for getting the fuel out of the drum. Pump it into 5 gallon jugs easy enough.

http://www.harborfreight.com/12-gpm-...ump-93755.html

This make geting the fuel out very easy.

So how do you switch between tunes? Im new to ecu tunes and dont know what you are referring to. I have 2 or 3 stations here that sell e85 that are either easily accessible, but if do run low and need to put in 93 will that mix with e85 and be ok?

E85 Is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs water from the atmosphere. I'm not sure how long you can store it but I wouldn't keep it around for too long. Also unless you have e85 specific injectors and pump Its a good idea to run a tank of unleaded through every now and then.

I might get something like that. What kind of drum are you using for storage? Do you need to use an additive like Stabil to keep the E85 from breaking down like normal gasoline?

Are you sure the injectors and pump are specific? I thought they generally flowed more than the regular gasoline counterpart. There are plenty of cars out there non-E85 specific that are running E85 with no issues through the years.

The injectors and pump dont have to be specific but if you plan on running e85 all the time its a good idea to upgrade. Aftermarket manufactures have e85 specific components. On a flex fuel vehicle stock parts are ok, runing unleaded just lubricates alot better.

I dont know if stabil will work on e85. It's the water absorbtion that you need to worry about. That being said I have been running strictly E85 on my wrx for 3 years and its awesome.

I wonder how the the FRS will work in 2 years if you keep driving it on E85? Are there any other NEW cars which have gotten similiar "treatment" with E85 tune even though it's a regular petrol car. I would love to E85 my GT86 but i'm afraid i will damage something in the long run?

Pretty good read here. lots of info. It's hard to say if long term e85 will cause harm. i wouldnt think so but I'm not learned up on toyotas DI system either. I plan on running thr brz on corn too, so worst case in a couple years we might be on here talking about our bus passes cause the cars wont run anymore. lol
