Subaru vs Toyota parts pricing

Just a quick FYI, I rang my local Subaru and Toyota dealers for price and avail on oil and a filter and this is what I was quoted:
Subaru
oil: $101.75
filter: $17.61

Toyota
oil: $70.40
filter: $27.00

I didn't give them part numbers just trusted them to look it up themselves. I'm sure if I rang some more locations I could get better pricing but non the less I thought the difference was interesting.

Seems a bit dodge... different pricing for the same thing...

Pays to ring around.

Subaru's oil is 5.5L while Toyota is 4L tho.

Subaru is SM rated for FB engines and Toyota has the correct SN rating.

What is the difference between SM and SN oil?

If it's anything like the US, Toyota is charging more for parts. Oil filters are 3x as much from Toyota ($23 USD compared to $7). No idea why, and this was from multiple dealers.

me thinks, some guys are not waiting for the 15k service. Wanting to service every 7.5k in between the dealer service.

Because now I've hit 1600+ kms I want to do a post run in oil change. Is it necessary? Probably not. Does it give me some piece of mind? Yes.

Frequent oil changes prolongs engine life. SN is latest spec oil, SM still fine, the grade is the telling factor.

I changed the oil after 1,000kms. Just asked the Subie dealer for BRZ oil.
Oil price between Toyota and Subie didn't seem much. But Toyota sell 4l or 20l drums where Subie sell it in 5.5l.

Wow even at A$27 = NZ$35 it still a whole lot cheaper than what TNZ retail the SU003-00311/15208AA130 for, $102!! Why they aren't $23 like every other Toyota/Denso filter is beyond me.
