I wasn't talking about the catback, and since this thread is about headers.....2+2=4.....

so all this talk about legality is that about the exhaust systems or the Headers alone,i have an exhaust already and looking to get the perrin overpipe and frontpipe and some headers, just want to be sure the Borla headers alone are street legal. Also i love the EL sound more than the UEL ^_^

I'm running the UEL headers and their cat back with the stock mid pipe. Not loud at all, perfect volume IMO. Sounds amazing when you open her up!

Can we please get a dB measurement?

Scott
I'm pretty sure the noise level is more attributable to the exhaust they have installed on the car than the headers.

Does the missing header cat cause a CEL?

Borla headers aren't street legal and they have no plans to make them either.

Yes unless you find a work around.(Spacers or a tune that cancels it.)

So if we put this UEL on the car with a stock exhaust or another exhaust with a single cat will we get a cel? Does the use of this UEL leave some sensor disconnected?

I can't tell if there is a spacer in the exhaust or not. I don't know which specific o2 sensor does what, but usually the removal of either will throw a code. Haven't done it on the BRZ, but I'm speaking of past experiences.

The issue with any non-catted header is that it removes an emissions device. Some people have said they get away with one missing, but I doubt it. I'm fairly certain that they are using a spacer though, which tricks the o2 sensor into thinking it's seeing cleaner air.

Not to mention if your state does the visual inspection too. If they know you're supposed to have 2 catalytic converters, and they only see 1 you fail. That's in addition to the OBD-II check to see if you have or have recently had a CEL.

That's why they state these headers are for "off-road use only". It's to make sure no one can come back and blame them for not passing an emissions test. They know no one is just going to slap them on for track duty, then yank them off to pass inspection. It's not worth it if you're constantly removing and re-installing headers and the gaskets. Not to mention the wear on bolts, nuts, studs, e.t.c. to do that repeatedly.

From the picture, it appears that there are 2 bungs on the header (one in the passenger-side exhaust ports and the other in the collector) so I don't think any sensors will be left out. I would also like to know from the person who posted they have this header already whether they did anything to prevent a CEL or if it even causes one.
