Promised Land Options.
It has to be common knowledge that wheels in Japan are high quality and much cheaper than a lot of wheels in America. Has anyone tried buying wheels from Japan, importing them here and save themselves a bit of money?
I've not heard of any members doing this, so i have presumed that there is some kind of catch or negative consequence to it.

Huh?
Most of the higher end import wheels sold in the US already come from Japan, and they aren't much cheaper in Japan than they are here. And yes importing a one-off set of wheels is very expensive. |

Yes, the wheels come from Japan, but wheels in automotive shops in Japan are way cheaper retail than in America. I've seen it a few times in MightyCarMods YouTube videos. They tend to snatch up wheels every time they visit Japan because you can pick up big names and high quality for extremely cheap.

You still have to look in to shipping costs and any duty. A crate of even light wheels will probably be around 100 lbs. I don't imagine they will be cheap to ship.
What people here that import used JDM parts will usually get a bunch of guys, or enough parts to fill an entire container to split up the shipping cost. There may be services that can find you some space on containers like this that can save some money for both parties. Still need to deal with importing/duty stuff, though.

Importing one set of wheels is Not worth it unless you go to japan and bring the wheels
As your luggage. iv done it before. Placed the wheels inside of a 20x20 box. Most people/importers bring in parts here by containers or Crates Last edited by 86_ZN6; 11-25-2012 at 03:17 PM. |
