I got that understanding at first as well, until I re-read the whole statement three times to realize that he may indicate no paddle shifter. Just a regular slush box.

Although I would think it would be outrageous of not providing any manual shifting in the autobox in the current time. Maybe it is for the weight saving or they just don't bother to think about that.

I would say last gen Celica, 370Z or probably RX-7 (FD). Those are the three shown in comparison picture to be similar to size of Mk I.

Just no fancy twin-clutch, I think. Regular automatic, with paddles.

Another link to a FHI release states that the engine in exclusive to the sports car. I would feel that means that, thanks to Yamaha, the motor is as close to the regular FB20 as the 2ZZGE is to the 1ZZFE.

For some reason a multi-link rear suspension that has a single upper wishbone always gets referred to as 'double wishbone' even if it has 3 lower links...

I can't figure out if it was about the looks or the dimensions or what...
I find it hard to believe he came up with those "confirmations" without a vivid imagination. Just saying, those are kind of far reaching.

==> means no hatchback version. Only in coupe form....... Edit: After re-reading the text, I do not think Tada-san was referring not having a hatchback form for FT-86. I think it was referring to the existing sedan or hatckback forms of cars. Since this is a new design, they can do whatever they want. (Hatchback hope is back on!! Yeah!)

“No DSG or anything of that kind,” says Tada, and is proud. Sure, the automatic has a computer, but the shift points cannot be changed – at least not at the flip of a switch in the dashboard.

==> means no paddle shifter or the sort?

“No,no, no – it is a completely new engine. The engine is still a boxer. The technology, even the engine block are completely new. Everything is new. The only thing that remained are the mounting points.”

==> if this new engine is the FB20 based, does that mean the new FB has the same mounting points of the old EJ series. I think this is a possibility.

“Suspension?” “McPherson, double wishbone.” And a smile.

==> or like the multi-link suspension at the rear?

And lastly Mr. Tada-san indicates that the production version should be closer to the Mk I rather than Mk II. Interesting...

I hope I did not use the word "confirmation" in my post. I just illustrate my take on the interviews. It is at best my speculation.

Good info.

But the concept that Tada said was "close" . . . ugh. Looks vaguely 370z in silhouette, but even more jelly bean-like.

Somebody help me out here. You like that look?

Those cars are relatively small. Its just the front that looks long.

And that sounded extremely sexual.

Mk1 is still my favourite.

But I think he may just have been talking about the dimensions.

the car has already been seen with paddle shifters. Hollis already mentioned paddle shifters. ya'll reading too deep into this. that statement was made by the author, not tada. and basically he's saying the car has as little electronics as possible. yes the automatic will have electronics, but it wont be some advanced auto where you can change shift points etc. this is the authors interpretation, not a quote from tada.

but one thing is for sure. in the US it'll have stability control...
