MT fluid change experience
I know that there have been a lot of posts about MT fluids but after reading all of them as well as posts on Bobistheoilguy, I decided to go with GM part #12346190. It is a fully synthetic Gl-4 made with with PAO's and esters and no pseudo-synthetic GroupIII oil and variably described as a 75w-90 and 75w-85 with KV40 and 100 values of 75 and 11.5 cSt. In the Chevrolet 2010 vehicle product car manual it is described as a 75w-90, so no warranty issues using it. It is expensive. Retails for 26.36 a quart. I got it at dealer cost for 16.53. Shifts are now very smooth with just the right engagement feel and no second gear notchiness! Highly recommended. Update after driving in weather in the 30s, mild second gear notchiness briefly. Still much better than OEM. May try Pentosin next time but not until my warranty is up. I don't want a claim denial.

It is a 75w-80 and the manual calls for a 75w-90. I am not concerned that it wouldn't be a good choice, but if I where to have bad luck with my transmission, Subaru could use this as a way to deny warranty.

Given the dealer techs cant even tighten lug nuts right, last thing I would worry about is them sending trans fluid to a lab to test oil weight.

Pentosin MTF2 is definitely working perfectly for
my BRZ transmission, smooth like butter without compromise. Car is almost at 8000 clicks and temperatures since flush 2 weeks ago are 20 to 50F. |

Is this something that can be easily done by an average at-home garage tinkerer (with basic tools), or should it be done by a transmission shop? How many quarts are required? I think this will be one of the first things I do once I get my FR-S in the spring!

Looks similar to my old STI. If you can do an oil change, should be no problem.

use a big shop type fluid syringe, its cleaner than most screw on pumps.
