Dealer wash...

So i requested to have my car delivered with all plastic on the car. Apparently my salesman put it in the memo and the guys at the dealership either didn't see it or ignored it and took the plastic off and washed the car. I don't see TOO many swirls/scratches except for some water marks on my trunk and a swirl on my hood / passenger side rear fender. The dealer said that I could take it to their detailer (separate from the dealership) to get polished and remove the swirl marks...

I went to the detail shop today and the guy told me that he will end up creating more swirls just in the act of washing (wtf...) and that he may not be able to get the swirls out 100% after polishing (double wtf...) I paid for a new car..if anyone is going to add swirls/scratches it should be me...

That sounds like a crappy detailer. You won't see the swirls until you strip the car of all wax/polish they put on it as it's hiding a lot of imperfections. Unless they washed the car with sandpaper, they should be able to buff out any swirls in the clear coat.

Sounds like an incompetent detailer. Try to get the dealer to pay for a proper detail from someone you choose.

Sorry, I can't feel that sympathetic. I'd be more than happy to take it just the way it is instead of having some guy polish off half the clear coat because I have a few swirls. It's just a car.

The dealer says they can't reimburse me since they have a contract with their detailer or something.

I know it's 'just a car' but I didn't buy it on sale...or used. It was supposed to be brand new and if I pay brand new prices then I think it's reasonable to expect a brand new car. Like I said, I put the request in to leave the plastic on and for it not to be washed as well.

I understand. The point I was trying to make is having a detail man try and take care of the swirls would cause more wear and tear to the paint finish than just leaving it like it is and enjoying it. If I could not accept the car the way it is the only option that would work for me would be another car completely. Not one that's been buffed on like a used car getting prepped for the used car lot.

Smartest thing I did was not allow the dealer to touch my car other than PDI. With that being said, unless the paint marring is really deep, a quality detailer should be able to polish and level the clear without being concerned about removing much clear. Better yet get the necessary products and equipment and do it yourself. It's not that hard. Start out with the least abrasive polish. If that doesn't do the job jump up a step in abrasive till you get the result you want. Just don't remove more clear than you have to.

That's a messed up detailer, where you at? I think I can find someone in your area to properly take care of this for you.

I've actually taken my car to Ken from autowerkesexclusive and he took care of everything and opticoated it. Couldn't be happier!

Aftermath of the dealer wash was a deep scratch on the hood and trunk lid that aren't 100% out but you can't see them anymore, even in direct sunlight. I could only see them in the shop with the light directly over it.

Stay away from those dealer washes...
