I ran across this on the Subaru website:

It doesn't specify the BRZ but....

02-137-12 Technical Service Bulletin DTCs P0017 and P0019 Nov 19, 2012

I cannot get access to the TSB itself, does anyone have access to Subaru's tech info system?

Description says:
"Service Bulletin #02-137-12

Bulletin Description: This Bulletin will provide a diagnostic procedure for DTC P0017 and P0019. The SSMIII software has been revised with a new feature which will allow reading of the variable valve timing (VVT) values. This capability will be used to determine whether the ECM needs to be either reprogrammed or replaced."

Doesn't seem like it's the solution to anything, just an update to diagnostic procedures.

Still, should help limit people with problems to a single trip for the ECU if the dealer knows for sure it needs replacement.
