Hey guys, I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to have my car fixed, and before giving them the keys, I figured I'd took a few pictures of the engine bay, and would try to get a picture of the ECU (the one behind the glove box, on the right) to see if they swap it without telling me.

I saw you guys talk about models 810, then 811 and 812, but turns out that my GT-86 (sold in France) has a different ECU with model SSPLF03. That or I'm looking at the wrong thing.

Does anyone have more infos on that particular model ?

I have the following markings on it:
* On the top "SMT MAIN ECU ASSY, SUBARU, 8801CA021, 232500 - 7242, 12 V"
* Then just bellow, I "DENSO Made In Japan", and "Model: SSPLF03"
* Then I have a few values like "FCC ID: Y8PSSLPLF03", "IC: 9490A-SSPLFL03", "For China: SSPLF03C1", and "MIIT ID: 2011DJ3698"

Since I read that DENSO was making most ECUs, and that there is the "MAIN ECU ASSY" written on it, I'm guessing that we have a different model in Europe...

Here is the less blurry picture I could get:

The ECU in question is not in the engine bay. It's tucked away to the right/behind the glove box. It's a bit difficult to see the part number due to the tight space. Need a flashlight.

Yes I know I had to get upside down in the passenger seat to take a picture of it, with lots of cables in the way. I have a SSPLF03 ECU behind the glove box that seems to be a different model. What gives ?

I wonder if this has anything to do with the country "emission control" regulations...

Actually, from your picture; I believe they are talking about the "Part number" which is "8801CA021" on yours, not the "SSPLF03 Model"

Here is the reference post from a Work Order of the 812 ECU from a previous posting.

Thanks for the link.

Like you said, it is probably due to local legislation and regulations. So I guess I have a "021" ECU. A quick google search on that part number only yield my post on this thread, lol.

By the way, I learned that there is indeed a new ECU flash available in France, for about a couple of weeks now. That means that my dealer knowingly lied to me when he called me at that time, saying there would be NO reflash this year, or he was lied to by Toyota. While I was waiting, one of the techs told me that they had a new car that was held at the local factory for the reflash before being allowed to be delivered to the customer.

Anyway, I'll know tomorrow if they did anything other than changing the VVT cam gears. Right now I'm stuck with an Aurus Hybrid loaner that drives like a cow

I got my car back yesterday and they replaced the ECM. The ECM part number they installed is SU003-04567. I hope this is the latest model! The car was in the shop for only two days.

Well according to one of the earlier posts, one of the last updated part numbers available was SU003-04522, so you definitely have a later one.

5500 miles, cel and traction control light came on while sitting at a red light. Second time this has happened. First time there was a momentary idle dip and cel/traction lights but both went away immediately. This time, the lights stayed on. Took it to a dealer and got the car reflashed. VIN is 6003xx

Fixed so far. I'll check back in a 1000 miles or if the problem reoccurs.

Another update.

Picked up car today. I've had an ECU reflash, ECU replaced, and most recently VVTi replaced.

Unfortunately, about 60 miles after picking it up CEL/TRAC came back. Dropped back off same day I picked it up.

Today will be 20 days in shop. My SOA contact should be calling me Monday. I'm going to go for broke and ask for a new car, I'm one repair and ten days away from meeting MD Lemon Law requirements. If not a new car a long block engine replacement.

None of these fixed the problem?? What is the latest ECU you've got? 812?

Hope you get a new car, cause this is just getting ridiculous...

@DaJoian

I originally had 810, was replaced with an 811. Which is probably the issue. I've inquired about having an 812 but the dealer said they have to go by what Toyota Service says to do.

Good news is the dealership told me they will be backing me in my request for a new car if that's the route I decide to take.

Service manager told me that Scion of America told her approximately 8% of our cars are affected by this issue and about 95% are fixed by the ECU reflash.

It seems every avenue for the fix has been attempted with my car with negative results. Really hoping that I can get an engine replacement or new car. I'm so tired of dealing with this and getting pretty frustrated with Scion. Scion really needs to get their act together with finding a fix and educating the service departments.

update:
first cell at 76 miles... got car back at 110 - replaced vvti gears and ecu replacement.

about 60 days later im at 995 miles and it came back on today. dealership closed. have to wait til monday to notify them.

however, i spent 21 days in the shop the first time i have ALREADY went through arbitration with toyota, i was told to suck it up and stop whining and my car was fine... i told her i would see her soon.. imagine that i was right when i told her it wasnt really fixed... so im not sure what is going to happen at this point... i was offered and received ZERO compensation the first time around other then a snicker when i was asked to be treated like everyone else.

more to come after monday.
