You should consider a touring bike instead of a hybrid.

Can anyone suggest me a good MTB or brand that is under $400. Preferably one that can be used on the road too. I rode my buddies MTB that he got for $600 5-6 years ago, and it totally out performed by 88 Schwinn road bike on and off the road. He said for that price i could find a much better one now, but i don't want to speed that much.

Look at some of the basic Trek, Specialized or Giant models. They'll do for what you guys are thinking of doing. The important thing is to get a frame size that fits you and a decent bike fit, so I'd definitely spend a bit extra and go to a proper bike shop rather than Wal-Mart or whatever.

I used a regular Thule 3 spot rack on the back of the FRS. Because of the bumper though, the rack will only accept 2 bikes, not three.
Obviously not intended as anti-theft solution. I was worried the straps would scratch the paint, but set up properly, they've been fine so far. I'd love a hitch-mount solution (though putting a hitch on the car seems weird!), but this will do for now: Attachment 16719 You can see the bike is high enough to avoid exhaust Attachment 16720 Note first "slot" empty due to bumper Attachment 16721 two bikes

But... Not so good with all the terminology of these bike parts. :<

I got a used one for $20.
I keep getting compliments on it. I'm not sure what to think.

As someone who rides everything from Xc racing to dh the Brz is not a bikers car really. Would visit a trailer hitch shp to see about adding a custom hitch like I did on my s4

Oldie? LOL, if you saw my mountain bike you'd laugh your ass off. I still ride my old Bridgestone mountain bike. Fully rigid suspension, just the way I like it. Most people probably don't even know that Bridgestone used to make mountain bikes. I'll have to snap a pic and post it.

My latest. 2012 Cannondale Scalpel 29er Carbon 1.
![]() ![]() Yeah, it put a hurting on my FR-S budget. My god, what an amazing bike, though. I can't wait until summer for some dry, fast riding. It has been brilliant in the cold wet leafs so far. |
