Why would someone with money and "status" in society decide to buy a Scion (USA) when they could afford any car they want. If they suck that badly at driving, they probably just have the Ferrari for looks/status and could care less about driving the Ferrari to the limit. I know we all love the FT-86 project, but no need to hype this car up as a god-send. It is great and all, but if I had $$$$ to spend on whatever car I wanted, it wouldn't even enter my list of possibilities.

+1

Least thats what I thought. Some of the richest people I know won't even touch a car under 60k. And some I know would drive cheap around so people would stop harassing them.

Or at least buy same drivetrain layout as Ferrari. Example, If I was rich (I wish) and owned Ferrari 430 and I didn't want to break that 430 (just in case), I'll prob buy MR2/S, Elise, or some other MR layout cheaper sports car (than 430) and join local track event to skill up my driving skills. I would prob keep in same or close power/weight ratio w 430.

...that's just an example

Yup, that would make more sense to me.

That's why a 200 hp FT-86 (or a super-light 125 hp MX-5) might be more fun to drive in many, if not most, day-to-day situations.

A lot of us here are already talking about swapping the FT-86 engine for a more powerful one, or adding FI. Fine. Get 500 hp out of it. But then what will you do? Burn through rear tires doing donuts in the Burger King parking lot?

But, to get back to Pebble Beach, I think the car was there because a car lover is a car lover is a car lover. "Rich guy" does not always equal "snob." Maybe our sweet little FT-86 is going to turn everybody's head, not just ours.

What day-to-day situations are you referring to? I'll suffer while drive this...

...around town any day. Have fun in that MX5/FRS/BRZ.

I'm thinking the Pebble Beach thing is some Scion underground marketing. We're all supposed to be thinking: "Hey BRoZ! Did you see Scion totally be rebellious and crash those rich guys' car party? Lets all go buy Scions 'cause that is totally cool and representative of our demographic!"

Okay, I tried but understanding Italian language and culture isn't on of my strengths.

I personally don't care for Levi's taste in cars and don't agree with his expectations for the FR-S but I can kind of understand where he might be coming with this.

What the hell are you all talking about? Clearly a ferrari will be way better to drive than an frs.
Just because you are not driving it to 'its limits' doesnt meant its not fun as hell. I've owned one 500rwhp car and another 670rwhp car. They were a blast to drive. Jumping on the highway, or a little spirited driving was extremely exciting. Driving my friends 250rwhp car was not as fun, even though I was closer to its limits.

This man speaks the truth.

No way would I even consider the FT if I could afford a Ferrari. Like if I wanted a track car so I wouldn't ruin my Ferrari, I would buy a proper track car like a Radical SR3.

If I had to drive a Ferrari all day long in 1st gear in L.A. traffic, I think I might get unhappy. I wouldn't be surprised if it got unhappy, too.

Just sayin'.
