What is best bang for the buck Subaru WRX STI or Mitshubishi Evolution

I am new to the "import cars guess you could say. I just purchased my Whiteout FR-S....traded in my Mach 1 mustang in for my new "toy".

I just recently sold my 1993 Cobra and going to be trading my F-250 in for either a Mitshubishi EVO or Subaru WRX STI-

I sat down and wrote down the pro's to each vehicle as my mind is racing and now comparing all four wheel drive possibilitys. I am comparing. I recently moved back to Ohio from Florida hence I want to get something that is four door (when I have the kids) and all wheel drive becase of the climate I am now in.

I compared the Mits Ralliart to the standard WRX non STI

I been comparing the Limited STI to the Mitshubishi EVO.

I havent driven either vehicle but most importantly they are all wheel drive hense I can't make up my mind and its just going in circles.

Can someone who owns or has owned both or either vehicle either PM with there personal experiences with each vehicle or respond to the thread.

Either way I think I am pretting much leaning towards the STI or the EVO as I feel I ll "want more" down the road and end up spending the same if not more to "mod' the WRX or the Ralliart.

Thanks to anyone that can provide me with input

Thanks again,
Dan

Or vise versa does anyone feel that the STI and EVO are overpriced for what they are. Keep in mind I have to have a four door also.

I am assming to have a WRX or Ralliart perform like a STI or EVO would be well above the price difference??

Whats your intended use? Daily, autocross, big power? Both great cars and for what they cost you get Alot. Go check out www.nasioc.com. The debate between the two cars has been beaten to death. Lots of good info there.

IMO the STI is slightly more functional for a DD, has slightly better styling and will potentially have a better dealer network. The EVO will be able to make more power reliably and is a bit more of a drivers car, at least when stock.

I have owned a GD STI and could never pull the trigger on an EVO because I couldnt stand their interior (besides the seats being very nice).

lol this question has been debated over for years. it's not as clear cut as asking FRS/BRZ vs Veloster which one is better?

My opinion is: STI is more practical since the ride is more comfortable, the hatchback offers more room, and the dealers (in my experience) are more competent. Mitsubishi as a car brand is struggle in the US (I have owned 3 with them, almost bought the Evo X), their dealer network is subpar, their customer service blows. The car itself has uncomfortable seats for long rides, less cargo room, and the interior is worse that a Honda civic.

Now with all the being said, Evo has the aggressive look that once you love it, you just cant pick the other.

this. In the end the cars are so similar performance wise (factory that is) that of your gonna stay stock just get what you like driving more. If you want cheap power get the evo. If you want that super mice rumble get the STi. Lol

I know comparing the two after a few hours was making me go crazy when I compared performance.

I like the way both cars look I like the aggressive look and hood of the EVO. I also like the more adult looking STI with the metallic gray color.

I talked to the Subaru dealer today and they just moved infront of VW who also is audio, porsche and mazda dealership. VW incompasses them all according to the sales guy. And that Every single one of Subaru's vehicle was awarded top safey rating in its class which for me is something to take into consideration as my baby boy and his older siblings at times would have to pile in the back. My son mostly though would be the only child riding in the rear as I am retired (32 years old) not an old fart but forced to retire because of an on the job injury to my neck back and shoulder. And with saying the comfort and ride quality is huge for me as I want the best riding car I am not in to be tossed around. Driving any long distance we take my wifes car pile the kids in. I am at home a lot during day with our son while our older kids are in school and she is at work so a lot of times its just me and my little buddy cruisin to the grocery store, game stop, summit racing etc

I know the STI or EVO isnt going to ride like a caddy but definatley looks like from just reading your posts and other things online the STI is more feasible at this stage of the game. Same performance as the EVO , but ride and saftey rated much higher.

But I like the look of the EVO hood and front end lol.

Subie sales man says I can order the STI but he says its at least a 90 day wait on the STI and or beloved FRS/BRZ. He said even longer for BRZ.

He said some young kid came in with his parents....they had two BRZ on lot mind you...kid parents bought him the car uknown color combo but both were limiteds...kid totaled the BRZ came back after wrecking car insurance company totaled it out... and his parents bought him the other brand new BRZ must be nice.....lol......anyways I am blabbing on here but I appreciate the input.

So from the sounds of it, it seems like the STI would be the no brainer in my current situation. Also interior is a big deal to me to now that I am older I like to ride in comfort and a nice interior w heated maybe cooled seats for my back. Hatch back option very nice to for the extra sp\\ace.
STI it is for the time being lol I am sure I ll toss and trn over it tonight..

But with telling you guys my life story everyone agrees the Subie is a no brainer?

Thanks again
Appreciate the help and direction
Dan

Sti interiors remind me of play doh.

Buy a Evo, you live in OH so you have Dave Bushur somewhat close to you, granted he is a huge douche with a mustache, but atleast you would have aftermarket parts close by.

I was debating between the STI and EVO as well. Get the EVO, A lot of previous STI owners have made the switch. I test drove both and EVO did it for me, particularly the EVO X MR model. Srsly though, drive the STI then the EVO, you wil be sold after, the Evo's Interior is nicer also.

I've owned both (2004 STi, 2006 Evo IX MR, and 2008 STi).

Both STi's always felt more like mountain road brawlers, high mechanical grip beasts; the boxer rumble helped set this persona. Great daily car. When things got wild, it would reach very high traction limits and then breakaway was quick and often surprising, even if it was anticipated. My 2004 was converted to a wingless trunk, and it gave it a real blended-into-traffic sleeper look. The 2008 was a little softer overall, but still definitely an STi. the 6sp tranny was kinda notchy, but exceptionally strong, and I never had a worry that I'd break it. I was glad to see they dropped the bright blue interior panels from the previous models. Seats were meh, they looked the part but thigh lateral support was lacking. I loved the hatchback bodystyle, the current body is way to aggressive "look at me". It's too bulgey and muscular. My 2004 was stolen, the 2008 was sold due to layoffs. My wife liked the 2008 because it had a more mature appearance.

The Evo IX MR was more of a scalpel, more accurate and predictable. The steering was fantastic and it made the car very manageable in 4WD drifts. The 4G63 engine was wonderful to work on, everything up front and accessible, and man it was a boost monster (factory spec 20+psi of boost!). The 2.0 had less low end torque than the STi's 2.5, but once it was on boil it was menacingly strong. The drivetrain layout (transverse engine with wild coaxial front diff/center diff/LSD/transfer case system) was really funky, ingenious layout, but it worked. The interior felt a little cheaper, but the Recaro seats were fantastic. I never got a chance to drive the X, but would personally steer away from any model with a DCT. I like the Evo bodywork, it's edgy, but still clean and attractive. The Evo was sold to make way for the hatchback STi. I was getting paranoid about the rising number of owners with 4th gear teeth shearing off caused by heat buildup from tracking the car with above-stock power levels.

The STi was a better overall car, better daily usage. The Evo was the better driver's car. These judgements are VERY marginal, no one aspect was a hands down winner against the other.

In the end, I love both cars. Never had a problem with either. Subaru has a better dealer network and much better reputation overall, whereas dealing with the Evo purchase was one of the most difficult buying experiences I've ever dealt with. We now have two Subarus in our garage if that says anything.

I've also heard the Evo is no longer being sold in the US? That makes me sad.
