While I am not an engineer, my '06 4Runner also has the Automatic transmission "bump" in it. when creeping forwards from a dead stop, you may feel some kind of driveline lash. I can't explain it, but since I don't see a whole bunch of complaints on it over at the 4Runner site, I don't think that you have much to worry about.

I feel like the problems only going to get worse if I ignore it, it also sounds like some other members have ended up losing their car over it so I'm a little concerned. At the same time until it happens more frequently I'm not sure there's much I can do.

There are actually many complaints about that and it's a well known issue. The axle yoke is 'sticking' when it telescopes due to axle wrap when braking. It happens on the 4Runner, FJ and other Toyota prado based vehicles. Incidentely, it seems Toyota finally released a TSB for this after many years of people complaining. If you lubricate the joint real well, this usually alleviates it for a while.

I can say with certainty as having had both an FJ and 4Runners, what I experienced was not the same issue. When I got the drivetrain 'bump' in my FR-S, it was happening every time I let my foot off the brake and then again when I put it back on. If this 'bump' is caused by a sticking axle yoke, it's probably only going to happen each time you stop and depending how hard you apply the brakes. This only happened once to my FR-S though so I have no idea what it was or if it was ever going to happen again.

So I started my car leaving a friend's house and it seemed to struggle a little bit; when it turned over it seemed to come to life a little less willingly than it usually does. It took the same amount of time to turn over, but started a bit weakly. Then, pulling into my garage, foot still on the clutch, the RPMs dipped way down and then shot up pretty high, before dipping way down again and shooting back up. I put the car in neutral and took my foot off the clutch and it seemed to idle OK. Do these symptoms sound like the CEL/Idle issue?

So my BRZ Limited (manual) is a shade over 1950 miles.. recently I have noticed that she seems to labor a little harder than usual at idle (no AC|car in neutral|foot off the everything but the brake).

Thus far I have seen no CEL (knock on wood) and I don't get the violent shaking as described by some owners, but at times it definitely feels like the engine is laboring during idle. She idles at about 650 rpms and even during the rough idling the tachometer needle never jumped (as it has for other owners). However, today was the first time I saw the tachometer move about 100 rpms under the same conditions.

Are these early signs of bad thing to come possibly?

Update:

The car was returned to me on 11/09. Weather here in Utah hasnt played nice for me to be able to drive much, but, what I have has been back to normal. No CEL or rpm idle fluctuations.

Will post if this changes.

Fix was new ECU and flash.

So we have a great list going on. Have we gotten with all the other FRS brz forums to combine efforts?

cel sl poor idle etc etc

Same problem as all others.

Going to take it to dealership on Monday.

I've read thru all XXX pages of this and can't find the TSB. Anyone got a link to it?

I'd like to be prepared to do battle. Also any other DFW Texas owners with a recommendation for a good dealer? Lewisville Toyota is where I was going to take it.

Thanks
