To be honest I was originally looking to get a BRZ because I have a lot of respect for Subaru and I liked the front end better for some reason (even if I'm the minority on that). I went in asking about it in September and was told that maybe in March?... if I'm lucky? So I went down to the Scion dealer and my Ultramarine FR-S 6MT is supposed to be showing up in December. The $2k price difference doesn't hurt either and I've since come to really like the front end on the FR-S. Car looks much better in person than it does in pictures.
Yeah I just picked it up today, and all of the sales people, service guys, and the parts guys were all taking a good long look at it. They told me something similar, that it's hard telling people that there is such a long wait, and even harder to explain what the car is like since they have usually on sat in one for a brief moment. They were telling me they brought it in the showroom last night right after they detailed it, for delivery to me today. Tons of customers were asking about it, and wanting to sit in it or test drive, but they had to turn them away...sucks.

Oh and I don't think you are the minority...I LOVE the front bumper too!

Yeah, I have an FR-S on order but haven't actually gotten to drive the car or even ride in one yet. I was able to sit in one at the Scion dealer but they weren't allowing test drives at the time for some unknown reason.

Congrats on the car though. I'm jealous, can't wait for mine to get here. I just got rid of my car last week and have to make do with my girlfriend's car for the time being.

I think I know what it is, at least in pictures. The FR-S front end looks aggressive but somewhat like a focused face with the mouth a little open while the BRZ looks like a really menacing smile. Like it's telling you it will be nice but it's got a little surprise for you. Either way, they are both great looking cars.

LOL...Funny about 2 weeks ago I went in and asked and a special dealership in Mississauga said they could get me one by March (4 months).
Hmm...word to the wise - I would get things in writing. I'm sure that this won't be easy to do though!

Doesn't matter if they put it in writing, a contract won't make the car show up faster.

I ordered mine mid June, was told delivery by Aug, waited till Oct then got fed up and called around other dealers, found one in stock, cancelled original order, picked up the car that week. Lucky for me, the one i found fell within my 3 colour choices, and it came with an upgraded stereo.

If your dealership has you waiting... call around. You may get lucky and find a cancellation like me. I wasn't picky on colour so that helped my search alot. You won't be able to deal with another dealer until you cancel your first order so make sure they have it in stock first.

When I picked up my BRZ November 5th the assistant sales manager told me a guy putting a deposit down that day might have to wait 18 months. Seems like he was trying to make me think the car is more exclusive than it already is. Why exaggerate?

It makes sense. If the orders that were placed in the spring are still on back order, every order placed since then would get have a progressively longer and longer wait time as the lists build. As long as the backorder list is growing faster than the fulfillment, the wait time should be getting longer.

When i place my order in June, wait time was quoted at 6-8 weeks. When i called around in Oct, wait times were being quoted at 3-5 months.

Since none are on ground, I would say 4-6 months.

If you are lucky and someone backs out than you could pick one up.

I would say more like 6-8 months. Back at the end of September dealers were quoting March delivery times.
