Ordering Nameless Exhaust - Helmholtz Resonator??
After much deliberation, I have decided to place the order for a cat-back Nameless Performance exhaust. I have a few questions I was hoping you guys could help me out with:
1) WTF is a Helmholtz resonator, and more importantly, how does it effect the sound? 2) Do I need to order bushings with it? There is an option to add 2, 4, or 5 bushings. 3) I am ordering the one that replaces the overpipe. Has anyone installed this system? I don't think jacking the engine up 1 inch should be too difficult, but I would like to hear it from someone who has experience. This seems to be the best exhaust in terms of sound and HP gain, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm open to it. I've already spent too much time in the official aftermarket exhaust thread! |

If you get this and get it installed can you post a few pics? I've read a couple of posts/reviews mentioning that the tips aren't even(one sticks out further than another). Not sure if it was an install issue or manufacturing defect, either way its really the only thing keeping me from buying their cat back system for the AT.

Okay, so after some research I've decided the helmholtz resonator is unnecessary. However, I am still unsure whether I should get the bushings (and how many) or just use the stock ones. Help?
Freeman, I WILL be getting this exhaust when I figure out these last few details. I hope to install it over this next weekend or the following, depending how long it takes to ship. I will keep you posted. |

I have the nameless exhaust and kept the stock bushings.
No issues whatsoever. |

I'm using the stock bushing also. No issues either. I wouldn't go with the resonator unless I was going to run an unmuffled version of the axleback. They are used to remove drone ( resonance ) at a specific frequency. The muffled axle back does not have any, so really unnecessary.

Thanks, Neziah. I was pretty sure it was unnecessary but wanted to hear it from someone who already purchased this system. This is the first major modification I am making to the car, exciting stuff!

I LOVE this exhaust. The sound is amazing. The installation is not hard, but be prepared and separate and hour or more if you are planning on doing it with a jack and stands. I did it by myself in about an hour and a half. To lift up the engine, there is a cross bar that has a transmission mount connected to it. You will see from below the car, there are two bolts connected to it (held by nuts). Loosen the right nut, and use the jack to lift the engine by the oil pan. you will have to juggle around to get that overpipe in, but its nothing hard. Good luck and ask away if you have questions.

Here's an article I put together about exhaust design on another forum. http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146644 Read up and get ejumacated ![]() EDIT TO ADD: I used 1/4 wave resonators (similar to helmholtz) in my design here.

Yep it is tuned, so if you keep adding changes to the system it may or may not work fully, certainly wont hurt anything. If you want to explode your mind, call up Jason and ask him to explain how it works. LOL
When I got to test their Dual outlet non-muffled Axleback on my FR-S, it would of been a perfect application for one as it had a drone at a very defined RPM range. They can cancel that out with the HR. Otherwise I loved it. Really had about the same sound as the muffled, just louder when you were on the throttle. I was surprised how quite it was at an idle. I am super happy with mine, but I was very tempted with the unmuffled.

Thanks for the help, guys! I do have a scissor lift so installation should not be too difficult. Not to mention I just swapped out the tranny in my Legacy and this should be a breeze compared to that PITA. My hopes are to do some other modifications during the winter and have an even more amazing car to drive come spring! I will keep you all updated.
